You are Muslim first or Pakistani first ?

Obviously every one here is both pakistani and muslim. But this question is about first Priority.These priority leads to two different path of development.

For the vast majority of us to speak of one is to speak of the other !

Pakistani Nationalism isn't based on a common language, ethnicity or past - Because we don't have them ! Its based on the concept of Muslim Brotherhood which is intrinsic to Islam.

So this seems more like a trick question than anything because for the vast majority of us, for good or bad, right or wrong, Pakistan & Islam are inseparably linked with each other !

I voted for the first option, but honestly, since the election results...I am feeling like to say "To hell with Pakistan!" ..I'll probably start identifying myself as Muslim first..

We are Muslim First and nationalities come later. Muslims living whichever part on earth are bond to one "UMMA", without any color, country, rank etc. As Quran also says..."We created tribes (countries) for you so that you can easily recognize each other".

Always whichever believe you follows its come first and nationality come later......It doesn't means that if you are Hindu or Muslim in India or Pakistan and when you travel to US or get US nationality you will also change your faith or your faith will change with country......your faith will remain same, unless you will not change that with your will.

Dude this question is being discussed more or less from a past century.Still answer is not clear.

In 1935 (i.e. Undivided India), Mohammad ali Jinnah has asked a muslim boy that whether he is Muslim first or Indian first. Boy has replied he is muslim first . Then Jinnah replied "No Boy ! you are Indian first".

India, he means was undivided India (Obviously)

Well , let me simplify it . It means that if the need arises and one has to make a choice between Religion & Country - One would chose Country over religion.

1. In first line of sentence itself, I say all pakistani member here are both Muslim and Pakistani. So where is the question of separability comes ? Obvious they inseparable but question is about priority not separability and indeed this question is tough one.

2. You say Pakistani Nationalism isn't based on a common language, ethnicity or past. Well that can be true about India too! still Indian nationalism is not based on religion. Burning example Sardar Bhagat Singh among many. Nationalism has to be based on Nation. That's it.

This life is temporary anyway. When we die we wont take any land with us, whether it is land from pakistan, india or any other country. All you take with you is your faith and good and bad deeds based on which you will enter in either hell or heaven. So nationality dont matter. This is why i feel that most people will always call themselves Muslims first.
