Yemeni Forces Shoot Down Saudi Chopper near Border Areas

.
@Signalian lolzz.... India recently got Apache.... Saudi one are much more advance then Indian.

The Apache was shot down using an R-60 air to air missile modified for ground launch off the back of a pickup tuck.
Yemen receive R60s in mid 70s with Russian Migs. light lethal 8km range.

Even if KSA lost a helicopter, it means nothing. US lost 30 Apaches, and dozens of other aircraft in Iraq.

Boeing rubbing their hands as they get to sell you more junk at a premium. Apaches have been useless since first Afghanistan war. Even Somalis could bring them down 30 years ago. Which is why US airforce and marines mostly use A10 Warthog for close air support. Why don't KSAAF have A10? Did you disapprove of the name 'Warthog' . All those billions you are spending buying nothing of actual use in Yemen. If you are smart you would have demanded A10 and not junk apaches and tanks and APCs which you can't even use effectively. A10 and drones will make the best use of air dominance. The jokes on you for buying useless junk which does nothing but prop up boeing stock price and keep folks employed making useless relics.

Deployment issues. This AH-64 seems a lone gunship in the air. No scout helicopter. Where is the rest of the formation. No chaff or flares deployed by AH-64 pilots, while it was targeted by an IR SAM.

A Turkish AH-1 was also lost in combat, that gunship also seemed to be a lone chopper.
If the formation has 2-3 gunships, the other gunships will target and fire on the attacker. A lone gunship is an easy target, no other gunship in air to retaliate.

In below pic, PAA AH-1s have scout heli. Also if one of the gunships is fired at, the other will take out the attacker.

US Army sends in Gunships with full support package. There could also be an F-15 in the air. An A-10 or AC-130 nearby. Definitely OH-58 Kiowa in the air.

.
Yemeni forces are allies of Saudi Arabia, why would they shot at Saudi chopper?
This is blatant misinformation, can never be allowed at neutral media sites.
Contrary to your belief yemen army is part of Ansarallah. What you call yemen forces is nothing but foreign mercenaries.

Subject line shall be militants operating out of Yemen shot down Saudi helicopter.
I explained it for you.

Agree on this point, but also what American use and can afford , other countries can't. It's similar Russian AF SU30 is totally different then one Russian export, because foreign buyers can't not afford and maintained regular updates.
Plus, these ex servicemen of Yemani forces prove to be very smart and they know how to use AA as SAM. They adopt similar tactic to counter Saudi F15 by using R77 as SAM.

In the 2 decades-old war in Afghanistan, American military leaders have learned the limitations of their helicopters in the mountainous regions. And when Pentagon wanted to supply the Afghan Army with helicopters, they had to buy Russian helicopters for the Afghan army. It caused an uproar in the US Senate and Pentagon leaders had to assert the fact that their helicopters weren't designed oin the terrain they were operating.

In the case of Yemen, it is a mountainous territory in the Northern part of the country where the Ansarullah/Houthis operate. These mountains may not be as high as the Hindu-Kush in Afghanistan, but nevertheless they're still high, rugged terrain. This is the reason why despite the overwhelming firepower on the Saudi/Arab coalition side, the war is in a stalemate. And perhaps we're seeing the limits of American-made helicopters as it was evident in Afghanistan.

In 5 years of war in Yemen only one was shot down. That is not bad at all. Someone who says Apaches are useless junk is obviously a clueless idiot.

No, the one that was shot down is the D version and India purchased the latest E version.

.
Houthis apparently shot it down with MANPADS.
Incorrect. Video and pics suggest it was a Rapier type system.

US lost like 30 Apaches in Iraq, and 30 Apaches in Afghanistan, it means nothing.
Everything means something, especially if you understand the proper context to look at it. From what i see, they are not as reliable and succesful as they should be.

Helicopters are very easy to shoot down because of their obvious performance differences that make shooting down fighters with MANPADS hard.
Whatever. stop giving excuses for US apache's bad performance in undeveloped battlefields.

I think using drones will be better solution in cases of insurgent wars, instead of helis.
HOuthis are also skilled at brining those down. they brought down one of the lazy UAE's wing loong's recently too. Houthis are showing decent AD skills to be objective and fair.

DO you call Taliban "militants"? cuz for 1 , Taliban have done way more terrorism than Houthis, but i'll wait for your answer.

THe reason the war is in a stalemate is because the lazy, tired and incompetent Saudi ground forces cant muster the 15K troops needed to march on Sanaa and take over from the Houthis. Simple. thats why they keep losing, cuz they cant do the most important thing they need to do to win the war and end it. No wonder they arm ISIS and AQ...their own soldiers cant fight for crap.
