What's new

Xi's "city of the future", Xiong'an, China's new capital, 40 years younger than Shenzhen

Anyway this lake is not within Xiongan.

I studied hydrology of Northern China carefully. Beijing and Tianjin and environ used to have many lakes, but recently, the the feeder rivers was diverted for agriculture. The lakes become seasonale and dried up until massive diversion of water from the South improve the situation.

You can also argue numerous lakes environ Beijing and Tianjin in early 1900s.

Now Beijing is parch and the rest of lakes are on life support.

The water system are diverted. I studied that carefully at one point of time.

Worse is yellow river. Now it dont flood, it goes dry.

In 1980's Baiyangdian suffered some drought but not really that serious. I visited Baiyangdian twice 10 years ago, it was just water as far as eye can see on all sides like an ocean.

I agree Beijing did have severe water shortage and pollution problem 20 years ago, I still remember that time, but not anymore

This lake still there anyway. haha

Government ensure it got its life support.

At first when you show it, I am surprise.

Later I check it out, I realize government decide to keep it and the lake get its water.

Northern China plains is quite serious on water shortage until NS diversion.

It's true that north China has water shortage issues, and this is why China invested trillions to divert surplus water in the south to the north, it's much better now, because of the super successful south-north water diversion project, now people are talking about diverting Tibet water to Xinjiang to solve Xinjinag's water shortage problem once and for all.

I think diversion of water from Tibet to Xinjiang is unlikely in the near future becos of the daunting feat, immerse scale, huge cost and technical difficulties. I dont know if the diversion project is cost effective.

China's 'city of the future': Xiongan showcase high-tech development

The truth is that Chinese are culture and historical obsessed with the capital. 帝都,京城. School, insitudation, company, government facilities all want a piece of land there... So it so crowded right now that car jammed from morning to evening... XI want to kick some people out of the capital... but no one wants to move out... So he comes up this fantastic future city and try to trick them move there...not many facilities moved so far...

The "water" scene must be BS or seasonal. Northern China has little water. They got to divert from South.

There is no shortage of water near Beijing, and it is even very abundant. Otherwise, it wouldn't have become the capital of so many Chinese dynasties.

Beijing is the intersection of three major rivers. You may not know that there are many places near Beijing that grow rice instead of wheat.

I have no idea why everything in China is so ugly and boring, I'm not impressed by anything at all.
