"Team Xbox is on a new mission," Mattrick said. And that mission is focused on making this an entertainment console.

He said the goal is to build a system that lines up games, television and software and that the most important part is that it must be "simple, instant and complete."

"It is time for technology to step behind the curtain and you and your entertainment to take the stage," Mattrick said.

He then announced that the new console will be called Xbox One.

Yusuf Medhi, senior vice president of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business, just unveiled how voice input can be used to control Xbox One. It will also respond to gesture controls.

Medhi is demonstrating how people will able to do "instant switching between input modes – tv, game, music."

People using Skype on Xbox One will be able to do group chats now.

If they will be releasing a new console then Sony Play Station wont be far behind :yay:

Wakey wakey eggs and bakey. PS4 was already announced.

All in all having watched the demo. It tanked. Xbox One is a damn disaster. @WebMaster forget about playing second hand games for good in the Xbox One, You have to pay for every subsequent install on the XBox, you also have to make you Xbox connected to this internet at least once every 24 hours or it will stop working as it has to check if you are violating anything and is constantly watching you.

The only good thing about this disaster of unveiling is the controller which looks and sounded decent in all accounts.

The only thing to hate on Play Station is the controllers. I don't mind anything else.

You mean the disaster of a R2 and L2? They fixed that look at the PS4 controller:

But true, the controller of the Xbox is way better than the PS controller, except in fighting games like Street Fighter for example where I find the PS copy is easy to play and execute special moves with than the Xbox controller.

One more thing to note, PS4 is FINALLY shipping with a microphone so you can talk in games, the difference between Xbox Live online gaming and PSN gaming is that XBL has an active talking crowd while the PSN is usually made up of dead silence.

Next-gen console specs: PS4 vs. Xbox One vs. Wii U

chart-list-640x350.png

Now that the Xbox One has been officially revealed, let’s have a look at the specs between all three systems. We know what the Wii U and the Xbox One look like, but Sony has chosen not to reveal their console except in elusive clips. Still, the spec list fore each console is now available. Both the Xbox and the PlayStation seem to stack up similarly in regards to specs, though the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 has a massive eight-core processor.

All three consoles have AMD powered GPUs, while the Xbox One and Playstation 4 have an AMD powered CPU. The Wii U is powered by IBM’s PowerPC architecture, leaving nVidia solely to mobile and PC graphics. As far as features go, the Xbox One followed Nintendo’s direction by including live TV in their console, including a guide view that Nintendo made popular with TVii. Currently it looks like Microsoft is stepping on Nintendo’s toes quite a bit with the Wii U’s TVii system.

Xbox One: the truth about used games, internet requirements, and backwards compatibility

xboxonehardware.png

we’ve singled out Microsoft’s response to six major concerns that have been plaguing gamers for nearly a year. So, does the Xbox One require a constant internet connection? Can it play Xbox 360 games? It’s time to lay the rumors to rest and get to the facts: check out our boiled down summary of official answers to your burning questions.

Q: Does Xbox One require an “always on” Internet connection?
A: No, it does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet. You will be able to play games and watch Blu-ray movies and live TV if you lose your connection.

Q: Can I use my current gamertag on Xbox One?
A: Yes, your Xbox Live Gamertag, Gamerscore, and Achievements will carry over from Xbox 360 (if you wish).

Q: Is Xbox One backward compatible?
A: Xbox One hardware is not compatible with Xbox 360 games.

Q: Will Xbox One allow users to play used and pre-owned games?
A: Yes, you’ll be able to trade in and resell games. Details forthcoming.

Q: Why is Kinect required?
A: Experiences that assume the availability of voice, gesture and natural sensing (through Kinect) will greatly improve the Xbox experience.

Q: Will my current Xbox Live Gold membership work with Xbox One or will I have to buy a new one?
A: Your current Xbox Live Gold membership will work on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

The Xbox One will play used games and your hard earned Gamerscore and Achievements will remain intact. As for the system requiring a mandatory internet connection in order to be operable, Microsoft seems to dance around this question a bit. While the company states that you’ll be able to play games, watch Blu-ray movies and live TV without the system being online, it does warn that an internet connection is required.

So which one is it? Looking to shed some light on this confusing twist of words, Kotaku spoke with Microsoft’s Phil Harrison who advised that the console needs to connect to the internet at least once every 24 hours.

While this news may be disheartening for some prospective customers, at least we now know what to expect from the future of Xbox. As for gamers in locations with restrictive internet connections, like dormitories and military bases, the Xbox One could be a tough sell. With the console set to be available sometime later this year, hopefully Microsoft will change this part of their strategy prior to the system’s launch.

Looks great, and very similar specs to PS4.
The fact that every console will come with Kinect is awesome.
Combined with MS illumiroom, this is going to be good. I'll await further details on the PS4 before making a decision but the Xbox looks good.
Very reasonably priced as well.

.
Has anybody used ps4 yet. I have a ps3, would like to get ps4 if it is sufficiently better.

. . .
Im deeply disappointed by the design of this new xbox! Nothing like the first two! Its name is also annoying first they choose xbox infinity which sounded cool and then reverted back from xbox 360 to xbox one! And it too looks like a old fat DVD player. I being a Playstation fanboy for so long was shifting from my ps3 to xbox infinity but now I will wait for ps4 cuz im not satisfied with xbox one.
