First, try to understand why MSP is not availed by farmers across India. Why only protest is in Punjab. What does MSP does? Why MSP is not for other segments? What is procured under MSP ? Why not other crops and fruits and vegetables? Does India needs to procure so much? What is the percentage of wastage of these procured grains? How much eaten by rodent and how much spoiled in rain?

Current issue is not about MSP. MSP is not being tampered, unfortunately.

The law is anended to give freedom to farmers to sell their crops to anyone. Currently they are compelled to sell in the mandi to dalals and brokers.

So I did a google and actually the farmers demands are very fair. Look at these tables from ToI -

Give legal protection to farmers by ensuring nobody can buy below MSP. That way middle men can be cut out, businesses can benefit as they can buy straight from farmers and farmers can benefit as they get the greater cut. Local govt will lose out and so will middle-men, but national interest is not in filling the pockets of the rich and the politicians, but rather by spreading wealth amongst the people who work to earn it (the farmers) and providing cheap food products to consumers.

Issue is : Farmers get Rs 10. Consumers Pay Rs 100 and Rs 90 goes to middleman.

If the monopoly of the mandi is killed, the benefits will go to farmers and consumers. Inflation will be down. This same problem is with Pakistan.

Potato farming is commercial due to Chips plant of Pepsi etc. Whole supply chain process integrstion has made farmers rich. They use latest technology. Have assured off lift prio to even producing.

If India succeeds in implementing these changes, Pakistan will follow too. Better for both the countries.

Politicians are farmers so nobody dares to pull this drug called MSP. Modi has guts. Pray he succeed.

You idiot msp budget is given to every state. But just like gst fund modi has not given that too to the states.

And this stupid system is force in bihar since 2006 and today even those farmers who hold more than 6 bighas of land go to Punjab and Haryana and delhi ncr to work as labourers because there are no mandis and they don't get fair price for their produce there and now feku wants this happen in every state of the country.

And if feku really wanted to solve the issues of dalali he would have given the guarantee of msp and fixed the time frame for the buying the farmers produce in mandis.

Not really. MSP won't change the basics of supply and demand.

If you want atta, you won't buy aloo, no matter how many aloo there are in the market. Shops won't replace the atta shelf with an aloo shelf, Suppliers won't but aloo just because the farmer has loads, they want atta because the shops want atta. If they can't buy it from the farmer they will import it. The farmer who decides to plant aloo instead of wheat will ultimately lose out.

Procurement is not done at MSP by private guys. Govt is forced to buy at politicians decided price. ....things and quantity needed.

This is such a stupid protest. Earlier the law was that farmers cannot sell their produce to anyone other than appointed Mandi. The middle man and politicians managing these Mandi are the one who are driving these protest. Gobt has now allowed the farmers to sell to anyone they want to.

Political earnings are at stake in punjab, no other state farmers are protesting. Removing middle men is good for farmers and will help consumers as well..
