LAHORE: Power crisis took a bad shape across the country on Thursday as the shortfall reached 8,200 MW, prompting enraged citizens to take to the streets to vent their anger in violent fashion.

Loadshedding up to 14 hours is being undertaken in major cities as a result of the power shortfall reaching, according to the Ministry of Water and Power, to 8200 MW. The situation in small cities and villages is even worse where the duration of electricity outages has jumped as high as 22 hours.

The Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have expressed their inability to continue supplying power due to not getting furnace oil and gas, the Water and Power Ministry said.

The worst loadshedding has completely paralyzed everyday business and other activities of life while due to electricity crisis many areas are also witnessing water supply problem that has further added to the miseries of the citizens.

The enraged residents of the worst-affected areas came out on streets to lodge their protest which took an ugly turn when demonstrators caused heavy damage to public and private property running in hundreds of thousands.

PPP..coulnt solve the problem in their 4 and a half year of government and now they say they can do it in a week....

Last time a similar statement was made by zardari and loadshedding did stop for slme days before resuming..
what they did was that they used up stored water in dam for agriculture in power production only to calm down the public... and then the farmers saw acute shortage of water ehen they needed it for plantation....

Load Shedding is a wise plan! IT IS A DISASTER COUNTRYMEN!

It is a very wise plan to disappoint, demoralize, mentally torture and force the public to feel helpless. Result: Riots, killings, unrest all over the country.

A wise plan to KILL the economy of the country. No productions, no exports, no revenues, adverse balance of trade, inflation, unemployment and all sorts of demons that are needed to ruin the country.

An unquantifiable loss of time and mental ability of every precious Pakistani.

It is indirectly effecting the behaviors and attitudes of people. Stress and anxiety is decreasing the lifetimes as well as thinking power of our people.

This load shedding alone is causing 1000s of problems.

...doesn't the businesses and middle and above class use portable generators.....???
The power may be little costlier...but reliable....
I remember in one of my postings in remote Indian town..the villagers were paying to a 'generator man' who had many small generators at various locality of the town to feed them the electricity. the people were paying to that man, instead of the local electricity board as the power was more reliable.
This makes perfect business sense..and since the power is slightly costlier, people use them efficiently..the electricity bill remains same or little more...but the 'help' is immense.
