The plant is owned by the Engro Corp’s non-listed subsidiary, Engro Fertliser, and has a capacity to produce 1.3 million tonnes of urea on an annual basis.

The addition of one-billion-dollar plant would reaffirm Engro’s second position in the domestic urea market after Fauji Fertiliser, increasing its share from the current 16 percent to 32 percent.

The total demand for urea in the country ranges from 6.1 to 6.5 million tonnes, as per the latest data and is destined to grow amid post-flood agricultural activities. This year, the shortfall remained around 600,000 tonnes and was met through imports.

now that is a good news! Seriously Pakistan needed a plant like that and Engro has been at fore front always!!!:pakistan:

We are pretty late. Fertilizer imports should have ended some where in 70s.

Dair aaid durust aaid.

My father used to work on the older plant, adjacent to the new one. I used to live in Daharki, have some sweet memories with Engro!

all of you smart investors should rush to buy engro shares...they are also investing heavily in thar energy project..so their shares are likely to turn into gold in future.

What a company to work for, one of very few most admired companies to work for in Pakistan. Exxon must be biting its nails after selling its shares to the employees.

This shows how good the Engro chemicals management is. Hats off to you guys.

Why this craze with the world's biggest/largest?

BTW, its not Worlds Biggest Urea Factory by any measure.

It is Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco) the world’s largest single site producer of urea with an annual production capacity of 2.8 million tonnes of urea per year. And it will further double its production by 2011.

Anyways good to hear good news about pakistan.

Qatar Fertiliser is NOT a single plant whereas engro is a single plant with 1.3 million tons capacity.

The Qatar Fertiliser website states that Now after the completion of QAFCO-4 plant QAFCO has emerged as the world’s largest single site producer of urea and ammonia with an annual production capacity of 2 million tons of ammonia and 2 million tons of urea.

It does not state 2.8 MMTPA production and hope that now the difference between plant and plants is clear to you.

Thanks.

I've heard it will run in full capacity in few months and more plant will be installed too to increase production later on.....

If we produce more in home the cheaper it will be and the farmer will benefit more....

We have good corporate setup in Pakistan , its the small business sector , where tax evasion is prominent

Its the general tax collection that is not followed in country

I heard that Pakistani Banks used to be top performing banks in World Back in 70's
