World Bank offers to finance Peshawar-Kabul Motorway

what is more important than expanding trade?
you people think Pakistan is making this for the welfare of Afghans?
Its a step towards linking with Central Asian states

This is what I am talking about.

.
more imporantly your whole KPK province econmy is based upon trade, i know punjab and sindh have other avenues but not for KPK

the very reason why closing borders should never be done but center usually doesnt care

.
Bhai mujhay trade say masla nahi hay masla hay loan say agar loan lena hi hay to ziyda important chezon pay lago or Pakistan ko is waqat sab say zayda zarorat hay dam ki.us kay pesay akhatey ho nahi rahey or hum chaley 760 million dollars ka loan lay kay road banaey.

Dam kay lye loan. Good question.

To le rahy hy na. Or to or bhai ham hakomat chalany ky pesy b loan le rahy hy. Dam ky lye b le rahy hy tension not.

.
because its gona be low interest, gona bring jobs and help KPK econmy, Afghanistan is one of the largest export destinations of pakistan

Pakistan's exports to Afghanistan amounted to $1.7 billion or 7.8% of its overall exports.
1. Milling products: $323.5 million
2. Sugar: $254.2 million
3. Salt, sulphur, stone, cement: $154.8 million
4. Cereals: $141 million
5. Vegetables: $110 million
6. Fruits, nuts: $104.2 million
7. Pharmaceuticals: $73.9 million
8. Dairy, eggs, honey: $62.5 million
9. Animal/vegetable fats and oils: $61.9 million
10. Iron or steel products: $61 million

there is a huge undocumented export as well
with strong connectiveity we can double this

dam has nothing to do with this project, dams needs to be built from PSDP but Nawaz wants to use that money for metro Lahore metro cable metro train and metro bus

WB will not fund controversial projects, it has open hearted funded Dasu but poor poltics from center(not putting its share of money ) has stopped that project

reality is no body is interested in dams as dams don't give you votes, metro buses do (especially the people of Punjab who voted for PML N)
brother we have 3 flour mills in my expanded family and i know where most of the production goes and what happens when the boarder is closed so i am not against trade or any project that has potential to increase it many folds.
my problem is with our policy makers and government which is willing to pour money in such projects form WB funding but are effectively ignoring the dams. my point is how many of the above mentioned products will we be able to export once the water crisis hit us.

To le rahy hy na.
kis dam kay lia mila hay ab tak loan bro:what:

So the flourmills that your family has, its product goes to Afghanistan?

So much for the grand statements of calling Afghanistan names!! You are feeding the same Afghanistan who quote-unquote according to you is arming your enemies. Isnt that unpatriotic of you?

as i mentioned before i myself don't own them but my expanded family(second cousins ) :disagree:

never thought of you guys as enemies just ungrateful people who should be responded in kind.

.
Yeah yeah, abruptly everybody is interested in lending money to us!!! We know what these "lenders" are up to.

WB, AB loan are way cheaper than floating bonds, that we usually end up doing
we should try to get as much as these loans as possible and focus using our own funds for projects where due to poltical reason we cant get funds(e.g bhasha dam)
as mentioned before WB as paying for dasu but we are dragging our feets in that project

remember WB/AB are political bodies controlled by USA and funded by arab countries

.
Success of this project depends upon the trust between Afghanistan and Pakistan which is all time low as of now. Though the project is more important for Afghanistan than Pakistan in my opinion but it may help Pakistan to connect to Central Asian countries as well with a suitable infrastructure in place. Anyways for now this project is in balance and its implementation not so likely with current relations between the two countries.

.
Can this motorway only be one-way so that we can transport all the Afghanis in Pakistan back to their country?

The only thing a motorway in Afghanistan will achieve is that Afghans will kill each other quicker :D, save the money, spend on something more worth while like iran-balochistan motorway or something...

.
send them back home and seal all the borders with this uneducated nation called afghanistan. we dont want anything to do with these people

.
I think that will be biggest mistake if government chooses to finance this shit project by burdening ourselves with debt. Whereas the leadership in Afghanistan blaming us for their failure.

We should rather be setting terms of our future relationships and working on border fence with priority. I know there we've a few hundred million dollar trade with Afghanistan but that have decreased further and it is decreasing further. The project will not even recover one tenth of its cost before it depreciate. Main reason behind this fall is equilibrium prices, attitude of afghan traders and terrorism etc but infrastructure is least concern.

PS: Peshawar to Torkham Border Crossing is only 58 KM and I think we're not in position of sinking money - better use will be to build infrastructure in FATA and GB.
