World No 24 Sindhu,Indian players beats Olympic gold medalist Li Xuerai in China masters!!

CHANGZHOU (China): Rising Indian shuttler P V Sindhu continued her giant killing spree as she stunned London Olympics gold medallist Li Xuerui of China to storm into the women's singles semifinals of the Li Ning China Masters Super Series badminton tournament on Friday.

World number 24 Sindhu, who is the lone Indian woman in the fray in the absence of star compatriot Saina Nehwal, won 21-19, 9-21, 21-16 in a tense 45-minute contest against the second seeded and world number three Chinese.

Sindhu turned out to be more aggressive than her fancied opponent as she went on to hit as many as 26 smash winners as opposed to 20 by the Chinese. The net game was a close affair as the Indian had nine points to the Chinese's eight.

This was Sindhu's biggest win in her career. Sindhu came into the match high on confidence, having got the better of world number 14 and eighth seed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand in the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament.

The 17-year-old Indian will now take on the winner of the match between Busanan Ongbumrungpan of Thailand and fourth seeded Yanjiao Jiang of China in the last four stage.

The young Indian straightaway opened a 3-0 lead and then made it 6-1 in the opening game before the Chinese reduced the gap to 6-7. Sidhu continued to maintain the lead but Xuerui used all her experience to make it 18-19.

It looked like Sindhu would wither under intense pressure from the vastly experience opponent but the Indian admirably held on to her nerves to take the first game 21-19.

Xuerui, however, came back strongly and it was the London Games gold winner Chinese who dictated terms on the Indian in the second game.

The Chinese was 8-0 up in no time and then extended the lead to 14-1 before making it 20-5. Sindhu made a bit of lost ground by winning four straight points but it was too little and too late as Xuerui took the second game 21-9.

Despite being outplayed in the second game, Sindhu showed that she can compete at the highest level by winning the decider and wrapping up the match. She led the Chinese opponent all through the decider.

It was a neck-and-neck affair for a while in the opening exchanges but Sindhu was up 14-7 and then 19-13 as she closed in for victory.

Xuerui made a last-ditch effort and reduced the gap to 16-19 but the Indian was too determined as she took two more points to script a famous victory.

Badminton Association of India (BAI) president Akhilesh Das Gupta congratulated Sindhu on her achievement.

"This is a big thing for Indian badminton. This will definitely inspire a lot of youngsters to take up the sport in the country," said Das Gupta.

Meanwhile, Ajay Jayaram came from a game behind to beat compatriot Sourabh Varma 12-21, 21-14, 21-16 in a quarterfinal battle that lasted 49 minutes.

In the semifinal, Ajay will take on the winner of the match between Bin Qiao of China and Hong Kong's Yun Hu.

RMV Gurusaidutt, however, crashed out of the tournament after going down to the top seed Long Chen of China 8-21, 12-21 in another quarterfinals clash of the men's singles event.

wow...thanks for the video....I am going to watch it right away....

And she is 17 only. We are going to put China in tough challenge next Olympic. There are some talented boys also. Saina's success will definitely boosting the moral of new generation players.

No doubt China is the super power of Badminton, but India is growing much faster than the world had expected..
Best of luck to her for semifinals,..

China, India's got more than just Saina - Hindustan Times

In game 1 & 3, Sindhu did not allow Chinese to pass ahead of her...in second game ...once she knew that chinese has taken enough lead and it will be waste of energy to try to win she let it go and saved energy for 3rd game.....very very good win and a matured one indeed.......This girl in next Saina for India without doubt

Do you want to bet on it ? i say she will loose in the semi

Saina said that Indoneshians loves her and always cheers for her whenever she plays against China and defeats Chinese player, just because of rivalry between Indoneshia and China in badminton.. She is a celebrity there. Healthy rivalry is good, increases the level of game quality and keep people at their toes.

At the end of the day, its just a game.

India-China shouldn't be taken as on same level as US-USSR during Cold War. If you want to do that type of comparison today, do with US-China rivalry in Olympics.

when is the next match...which Indian channel is broadcasting it and at what time

hey sab, good to see u here bro....:)

on topic: she was always seen as India's Saina Nehwal part 2, so i guess in the next olympic we will not see 1 saina vs 3 China match but the competition will be fair with 2 Saina's vs 2 China :)

We can beat china's domination in badminton if we continue on same track..
congrats Sindhu you will inspire many..

China Masters: Yanjiao brings Sindhu’s dream run to an end

Changzhou (China): Rising Indian shuttler P V Sindhu’s giant-killing spree came to a halt after she went down fighting to world number nine Jiang Yanjiao in the women’s singles semifinals of the Li Ning China Masters Super Series badminton tournament here today.

The 17-year-old, who created a flutter yesterday by beating Olympic champion Li Xuerui in the quarterfinals, lost 10-21 21-14 19-21 to home favourite Yanjiao in an hour and six minutes.

The first game lasted just 14 minutes and Sindhu was thoroughly outplayed with Yanjiao reeling off seven consecutive points to clinch the initiative.

There weren’t too many smashes or delicate net volleys on display in the opening game as the two players relied on each other’s errors to score.

In the second game, Sindhu roared back by taking a 6-0 lead first up. It was a marked change from the first game as Sindhu seemed more confident in her stroke-play whether it was the baseline or closer to the net.

The Indian took 23 minutes to eventually prevail 21-14, which included five smashes and an equal number of winners from the net.

The deciding third game went neck and neck to start with before Yanjiao took a slender lead owing to some unforced errors committed by Sindhu.

But the Indian came right back with a couple of powerful returns that took Yanjiao by surprise. From being 5-7 down, Sindhu took a 10-8 lead as Yanjiao showed signs of exhaustion in her stroke-play.

However, the home favourite was still 11-10 up at the change of ends as she exploited Sindhu’s net game, which was a shade weaker than hers.

The Indian seemed more comfortable playing out long rallies from the baseline.

Egged on by the partisan crowd, Yanjiao overcame exhaustion pretty well to take a 16-13 lead.

But even though the Chinese was on top when it came to dictating the pace of the game, Sindhu showed that she had it in her to fight the tactical battle.

The teenager made it 18-18 but the experienced Chinese raised her game at crucial junctures to eventually prevail 21-19 in the deciding third game.
