Work on GHQ Complex in capital may start soon​

ISLAMABAD: The security of the GHQ situated in the thickly-populated area of Rawalpindi stood exposed yet another time in the wake of the Saturday’s terrorist attack on it.

Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani halted the construction of the new GHQ in the federal capital last year when the federal government declined to provide assistance for the building of the complex in Islamabad under the pretext of economic meltdown. The armed forces and the federal government would review the decision to shelve the GHQ construction next month so that its construction might be restarted without any further delay.

The Army has decided not to burden the national exchequer for the construction since it intends to dispose of its precious lands and some other assets. The income that would be generated through a transparent system would be spent on the construction of the GHQ in Islamabad. In addition, the Army will contribute 25 per cent of the expenditures to the federal government for development purposes.

Well-placed defence sources revealed to The News that the GHQ’s compound is part of the capital’s master plan and about two thousand acres of land was earmarked for the purpose in Sectors E-10 and E-11. Former President General Pervez Musharraf laid the foundation stone of the GHQ in 2004 but no work could be started till 2006 but later it was shelved.

The existing GHQ does not fulfill the requirements of base needed for war planning and its execution. The planned GHQ in Islamabad would fulfill the criteria’s of the new and secure GHQ, the sources said.

If the posted pic is the model of the proposed GHQ then it would surly be awsome.

i am sure most part of the proposed GHQ would be underground and little will be known about by people.

whatever the case might be, it should be very advanced and an alternative rather secret GHQ may also be built for wartime situation somewhere else.

New GHQ was needed and army knew that location of present GHQ is not suitable for its function/purpose.

IMO, the new GHQ should be built across margala towers or in between and two tunnels should be drilled through the hills giving it access to both sides.
Those tunnels can be guarded on both ends and can work as shelters during war time for the citizens of Islamabad and sarrounding. It should be build on emergency basis.
Pakistan is in state of war and it should be declared officialy.
All Pakistan should be asked to contribute for the great cause.

If US can send its construction machinery for TTP to build tunnels than why not Zardari ask for heavy building machinery for our armed forces?

We need GHQ outside Populated Area but the problem is Money. We really dont know how much cost for built (Today) GHQ especially in current economy situation of our country.

Does this means TTP is more rich and more influential than Pak govt. and its army?
A building is no wepon! why its construction may cause problems for US?
Let's calculate how many soldiers have been died todate and another attack like GHQ than US will be in perfect position to launch another media war against Pakistan military.
How much do we as a nation stand to loose than????
Attack on GHQ has imprint of murder of Zia ul Haq! and opposition to finance Pakistan military's boarding hint clearly that attempts had been made to conqure Pak army.
Some times, by bringing ISI under rehaman malik and some times by blaming them, some times adding clauses in aid bills, some times requesting US to stop aiding military of Pakistan, some times sending Pak army to war without required tools, some times by not promoting deserving candidates, some times organising throat slitting of officers by assistance of civil administration, some times police is used to make videos of army by intent of maligining them, some occasoins captured terrorists are set free, some times foreign security agencies are imported, some times wepons are imported for them and security, some times conflicts are provoked on provincial and religous basis, some times new provinces are announced, some times people declared terrorists are declared heroes......list goes on and on.

New GHQ Should be in Mountains, out of city, and surrounding nearly 8 to 10 km area prohibited for civilian population?

I heard rumors of land buying near Multan for GHQ.
Also, of making GHQ near Jehlum.
E-10 is pretty small for GHQ, U think. and it will render Margalla road completely useless for residents of F-10, F-11, E-11 etc etc.

I am sure our Pak Army will plan new GHQ after taking into consideration the recent terrorist attack, so that these types of acts could not re-occur. The location should be away from populated civilian areas for safety purposes.

But why not army ask the common public to contribute?
There is no harm in asking the patriots to finace the sacred project.
Amount required would be very much depending on the site / location but no compromise should be made in selecting the site.
IMO, project of such a scale would require 1 billion rupees.
This includes building underground explosion proof cellars, automated security systems and building above.

current GHQ is so close to the main road, of course it has gates and checkpoints; but from the entrance gate it's on the main road

its good to move to proposed location in Isloo. Inshallah.
