Women to lead Indian Army Units

giving them relaxation in terms of physical standards is totally groundless:hitwall:

Exactly. Especially considering the already low physical requirements to start with.

I think it will be in non combat roles. The Indian Media is a fan of USA so they are desperately hoping for women to be allowed into combat.

If a woman passes the requirements (for men), she should have every right to serve.

.
The article said certain battalions. So I must ask, are these permanent commissions or because SSC is now 14 years , they are being allowed?
Certain 'battalions' means regiments like Air Defence, Signals, ASC battalions, Ordnance units, Army Aviation corps etc. Not fighting arms.

.
Why?

If they pass all the required tests I see no problem with that.

BTW: I think all the tests, especially the the PT tests need to be the same for men and women. Sure, women do have different body compositions (generally) like more fat and less muscle but in combat, no one will give a fukc about that.

Besides, the Indian Armys physical requirements for men are a joke anyways... reducing them even further for women is totally insane.

They do give a damn. In hand to hand fighting unless the woman is as strong as a man this is likely to happen :

Please not this BS. Men in 99% of cases will pass most requirements. However to push women , the bar will be lowered even further. Hand to Hand combat occurs even in 21st century.

As if those cops got any training to begin with

My point was that the requirements are already low for men. And even lowering them further for women is dangerous.

They are riot police. They should have known better.

Women will be outmatched isnce this is the the one category where nature has used her infinite wisdom and given man a monstrous advantage in comparison to women.

These are non combat units like Air Traffic Control in Aviation and Public Works in Engineers.

I differ here. Women physically are not suited for combat roles. If you have had combat experience or operated in a CI ops environment, you'd know what I mean.

Secondly, standards of physical training tests for men and women are different. At the OTA, lady cadets have a different set of qualitative requirements where physical fitness is concerned compared to their make counterparts. The PET yardsticks are different due to obvious reasons.

However, where academics are concerned, it's the same. And I daresay, the lady cadets generally do well if not better than the Gentlemen cadets in academics at the OTA!! Bloody embarrassing, what? :ashamed:

I was talking about the general requirements to join the IA below the officers rank. AFAIK all unit members have to undergo the same basic training?

They are riot police. They should have known better.

Not in India ^^
Anyone who beats crowds with lathis is considered riot police
But to be fair to them, they did not have any proper protection to start with and times have changed.

PS: I found it:

Those are the requirements

The IA should be opened up to woman more in technical/support branches- Signals, Medical, Intel, Air Defence etc but keep them away from combat arms. Even today most modern militaries have a bar on women in combat arms or have experimented with it and failed.

This is not a sexist position but based on human physiology, I'm sorry to say but the average woman would be a liability to any combat unit not to mention being more prone to injury.

In fields like Aviation in the Air Traffic Control branch, women are eligible to command after 12 - 14 years. For SSC officers those are their last years of command since permanent commission is allowed only in judicial and ordinance branches as of now.

Some prominent feminists like levina may take hurt but in war there is no place for political correctness. To give you all an idea of of how it works out :

An average women weighs 125 - 135 pounds - an average IA soldier's kit consists of 10 kg Patka helmet (22 pounds) , 8 pound rifle, 60 pound body armor and 40 -60 pound backpack totaling 150 pounds.

150 > 125 - 135

Imagine this much weight being carried in combat!

Damn thts heavy.. :D

Just speaking from the physical standpoint, if a woman has the same upper body strength of a man, she would not have any more difficulties than her male counterpart.
