Women in the Indian Armed Forces Picture thread

Women in combat is a very very bad idea man. As they are in many other industries and occupations.

Sometimes (more often than not) nowadays we go too far with this political correctness BS.

agree with you on that one, but there are many women who out of their own will, join the armed forces, the thrill is contagious.

There are some doubts by posters as to who that lady is. In this pic you see the ex Indian Defence Minister, Pranab Mukherjee shaking hands with members of the Army Women Everest Expedition-2005 team as then Army Chief, J. J. Singh looks on during the flag-in ceremony in New Delhi, 23 June 2005.

The lady in question is none other than paratrooper Dechen Lhamo from the Special Frontier Force, which comprises Tibetan refugees, and is the only Army establishment to have woman combatants.

Firstly the SFF is in no way part of the IA. And once again, the SFF uses women in support roles- not as combatants. There are 0 female combatants in the SFF or Indian military. Wearing a maroon berat with airborne wings doesn't mean you are SF or a PARA. It simply means you have undertaken an Airborne course and are a qualified parachutist. Almost any serving member of the IA can become airborne-qualified. All SFF are too and apparently so are a few select females who have chosen to take the course.

They should be kept out of combat. Train them if you must. But combat is serious business and a combat posting at the front with women brings with it its own headaches.

Headaches a soldier can ill afford as he needs 100% of his energies focused on killing or getting killed.

He cannot worry about whether his mate can carry his/her own weight. Or be protective. Or have the slightest doubt about whether his/her mate has his back in life or death situations.

A woman can be more vicious in a fight than a man. There is no doubt about that if anyone has seen a cat or a dog or a human mother around their kids.

But combat has physical requirements that most women cannot fulfill. And the need to be politically correct should never surmount the need to fight to win.

Special frontier force has two companies of women personnel, in the medical and signals role. Not in combat role.

She is a journo, the plane is a MIG-35- she was taken on a joy ride, she isn't part of the Indian military. The IAF doesn't have female fighter pilots.

How about the (then) commander-in-chief herself?;) :

She is from "Vikas regiment" which has Tibetians. This regiment is of Brigade Strength. Which has Women is Support role. To be part of Vikas regiment you need to be a Para trooper, and comando. You can see Balidan sign as well.

In war the SFF is under the operational command of the Army when allotted specific tasks/roles. There is one SFF battalion under the Army at Siachen.

You are right that the SFF is not part of the Army. The women in the force are in the signal and medical companies. However they are trained in mountain warfare and guerrilla operations and all have to be qualified in para jumping to accompany the forces to operate behind enemy lines. That means they are prepared and ready for combat if and when the need arises.

No balidan badge is there unless it has suddenly turned white from red.

Moreover Vikas regtt is an elite commando unit not a unit which comprises of nurses or doctors or any other from the supporting branch.

Maroon beret is worn by nurses, doctors, engineers, gunners and others too...No way it means that you are a super doper commando!!

And whoever you are and whatever profession you belong to..I have read your posts in which you try to show that you are involved with the Indian Army and this is the second time you have made an error..the first being calling a Kumoan regtt troop as a Grenadier. No way I see you belonging to the Army...whatever you are keep your intentions clean!

Tagray Rahooo!!!

Girl Belongs to Special Frontier Force [SFF] or Vikas Regiment or Establishment-22

LOOK AT LEFT SHOULDER - PARA COMANDO Patch. It is always worn on Left Shoulder over Command Badge. It is issued only once your Earn Blidan.

You can do para jumps and ear para wings and maroon barrette but this excludes Para comando patch.

To earn para comando patch you need to earn Balidan badge. She is wearing Para Comando Patch and which means beyond doubt she has earned "BALIDAN"
