Wombs available for surrogacy in India - ethical issues

basically every religion is the same.

hinduism also widely talks about artificial insemination and surrogate mothers.
for example,in mahabharatha "gandhari" had her embryo cultured in 101 pots ,which led to the birth of her 100 sons and one daughter who later bacame the kauravas.
also,in mahabharatha itself, there was references of surrogate mothers(i don't remember the names".

I myself don't remember since I read Mahabharata at a mainstream Hindu friend's house. But thanks for mentioning. Mankind is designed to evolve and survive no matter what any religion says. For example, Pakistanis would the be first one to defy the rules if it came to their evolution or existence by pushing boundaries of science as much as possible.

There is nothing wrong in it since science is explored to make humans evolve and make human life convenient.

If a family member donates it .. OKAY... but buying a kidney.. yes sir.

I think u didnt read it.......... in these cases the sperm donar is not a stranger but the husband whose sperm is taken by doctors out of which the working germs r inseminated into his wife through medical procedure......

Insemination by a stranger is also not allowed in Islam or Pakistan.

Also i think donation of an egg is probably allowed in Islam .... but selling it for financial purpose isnt!

And the correct spellings of Kuran is Koran or Quran..

i thought that the formation of embryo outside womb was prohibited in islam.

. .
Dnt think so but insemination out of marriage surely is.

whatever it is.................

anyway, women becoming surrogate mothers isn't prohibited by law in india.

i personally,as an indian or as a muslim will never consider surrogate mothers as immoral.

i do agree that india is becoming an hub for surrogate mothers mainly due to their bad financial situation and we are fast improving.

i don't find it a shame.

There is no harm in being a surrogate mother if ur doing it for the love of humanity but i do find it odd if somebdy does it for the money......... May God help us all.

Selling a part of ur body.... its like prostitution.... u get paid... u deliver...

By your logic, if a person pledges to donate his eyes or his liver on his death for use by another person desperately needing them, he would be conducting posthumous prostitution. Is that right? The childless couple gets its child, the poor surrogate woman gains financially and herself leads a better life. So what is your problem? Having said that, I agree with other Indian members here in that the laws governing this issue should be made stronger to prevent misuse, especially forced surrogacy or use of minor women.

No unless he does it for money................ donating it for humanity n stuff is all cool... but for money it not humane.

A man is not a piece of meat tht one could go n just buy.

I see your point. Actually it is quid pro quo. I personally would not approve of anyone going into an arrangement like that. However, I understand the compulsions of people who do it. Since I am not in a position to help the poor people who do this, I will therefore not sit in judgement over their actions. They could do things far worse, poverty kills humanity in many ways, and this surrogacy actually helps the childless couple. So, I will not let my morals or ethics intrude into a practical sense of what really happens in the world. If the surrogate woman is willing, understands the risks involved, has the concurrence and support of her family, is not exploited and the whole exercise is properly medically supervised, I have no issues with it.

A patient in need of a kidney has a greater odds of finding one if people are paid for the donation. and same is the case with surrogacy.

I think it's OK to be reimbursed, but not make huge $$ from it. It is up to the parties involved to decide what $$ is appropriate.

Is $5,000 to $15,000 appropriate? Sure. Is $100,000 OK? Probably not.

I think it's great... helps everybody involved.
