Without the Republic of China’s Contribution, WWII Would Have Taken a Different Course

. . .
ROC is part of the Chinese history and their sacrifice and contribution to WWII should not be discounted. At least they didn't choose to surrender when under such a difficult situation that they had to fight the full might of modern Japanese army all by themselves for several years. They successfully held off the Japanese to the east , Japanese troops couldn't manage to break into central China after years of trying. Millions died fighting and almost half of the Japanese soldiers killed during the WWII perished in China.

Because of their incompetent traitorous leaders, 35 million Chinese died during the invasion by the Japanese, and another 100 million died through the starvation.

You guys love to say how Mao starved the Chinese, but during the era of Mao, China's population was booming, while during the reign of the KMT, China's population growth was stalled without the one child policy. So even 100 million of starvation might be conservative compared to the actual figure.

They were a US puppet. I watched documentaries about China from the 40s, before 1949 and they all have positive things to say about China. They even praised Generalissimo Chiang for his courage and fighting spirit that helped drove out the Japanese ! How hilarious is that

It seems that KMT now has been forsaken by their US master, because their US master has found an even better puppet and useful idiot known as the DPP.

KMT was first a Soviet Union's puppet, then Chiang betrayed his old master to a more wealth Daddy USA. This alone said a lot about the nature of KMT since unlike the CCP they were not under the threat of SU, but what really killed their governance in China were the uncontrollable corruption and extreme favourable policies to the wealth elite class.

I agree that Chiang was a incompetence leader but the death in WW2 wasn't his fault. Imperial Japan was the one who should get all the blame.

The US had no interest in China in the 1930's and early 1940's. About as much interest as you have now in Ukraine. If you and Japan wanted to kill each other we weren't fazed. We only got interested in helping you because Japan was creeping into Indo-China and cutting off some resources we needed to fight the Germans. We needed you as a buffer zone to keep Japanese troops distracted.

My two cents.

If China had not tied down the Japanese during WW2, we will be speaking Japanese in Asia and Australia.
Europeans will be speaking German in Europe.

Fortunately, that's not the case.

China's population is just too big and its terrain (in the west and SW) is just too challenging to be conquered by another country. In WW2, Japan may have been misled they could do that when they captured Korea and Manchuria.

China is a single unified country (more of a civilization state) because 95% of them identify themselves as Han, and a very big proportion of the remaining minorities align themselves closely with the Han, i.e. Tujia, Miao, Dai, Hui, Manchu, Mongol, Korean, etc.

IMHO, the Han is not one ethnic group but more of one culture, one which is highly influenced by Confucianism and Taoism.

Very well put. Thank you.

Does anyone here know if there is any truth to the following reports? According to this report, it sounds like the KMT was a pro-US puppet, who was more concerned with taking out Chinese communists than protecting the country.

search "voltairenet org USA’s warfare against China"

I ask because America was accused of propping up pro-American governments throughout Asia one after the other. I just found that interesting.

Oh, please.

We are discussing some 40 years of very complex politics and military affairs, from 1911 to 1951. Do you expect a reply within this forum?

If you are, then if the Chinese members agree, I could write on this - BRIEFLY.

Not very hilarious, and very stupid of people who laugh at that phase of China's history. Downright cheap, in fact.

No one is laughing at Chinese history. Laughing at English documentaries that claim Chiang was courageous and all that. If you know real Chinese history, which I supposed you do not as you do not read Chinese than your view will be different when it comes to Chiang.

It is not about Chiang, it is about Chinese military history. If you had any reading, you would have replied differently, with more respect for your own soldiers. That is the trouble with citizens of a totalitarian state; you believe what you are told to believe. And that is why I lack respect for the bulk of you. Cardsharp or Chausim would never have talked like you.

Because many Hindu ultranationalists dream for a KMT China, so they can claim Tibet as theirs.

.
Millions of KMT soldiers died fighting the Japanese invaders, please, forget about what uniform they wore and just remember, they gave their lives to the country, they were not KMT or CCP, They were just Chinese soldiers died defending their country and their people. They were just Chinese sons and daughters.
