Where are those who cry about the proliferation of WMDs? Nobody is asking why india needs ICBMs. Is india ready to strike the US? But when the state which is constantly being threatened by the US tries to develop ICBM people like ahseeba say that Pakistan doesn't need ICBMs. Now, that is the height of hypocrisy and deceit.

We want them to inform the nations having thoughts to have a war with India that you are in range of our missiles... we don't need to send our army, air force or navy in your territory to destroy one of your city... we have to protect our nation from all those who feel that we are not capable to do so... it's like a nuke... will help our enemies to consider the attack as a last option...

Whether its space program, fighter jets, submarines, nuclear power plants etc India gets significant assistance on these projects from Russia and the West, and in many cases just buys them. I don't expect every country to be able to do this, but India has population of 1 billion, while China is fully self-sufficient in all these areas.

India does not believe in inventing the wheel to build its car.

Self sufficiency is required when nobody's willing to sell you anything, When India can get the best it makes sense to adapt the tech available to our necessities and learn from them and try and build the same. Pretty cost effective in the long run. Also it much rather makes sense to invest in R&D and develop whats not available to India. Presently all our defense procurements come with some sort of JV's.
