With eye on exports, Tejas on display in Bahrain air show

I would like to hear some country pitching us a deal. Wishful thinking.

From technical POV, it certainly have the potential, but politically we need another President from Army to make it a success, until than you can sell. to US.

Let me know those technical POVs. Chinese avionics and weaponry has always dubbed as sub standard and thats why china has not so far succeeded in getting any significant export deal other than pakistan(co producer).

The only bet you can have on JF-17 is because of its low price, not sure what is the export price for a thunder.

How? Does HAL have that facility?

They can have if they get more money. Export order = more money.

And once export is achieved the same lines can be used for home production.

There is a large market out there for a light fighter. Hundreds of F-5s and mig-21s and equivalents are set to retire, not to mention older mirage variants. Since it uses modular architecture, it can integrate any weapons from anywhere. Russian, American, European or anything else. I hope we can export it to a few countries; that would significantly bring down the price as well.

Charity begins at home first finish the IAF and IN orders then think of exporting @ DODO .... oops DRDO/HAL :pissed:

But why would US buy a plane which has absolutely nothing that it cannot churn up in a weeks time ??

If it was sarcasm, then no need to reply.

HAL has displayed scale models of the LCA in almost every air show/exhibition they have taken part in across the globe/India for a long time now so unless they are actually going to be showcasing full-size mock ups this news is nothing noteworthy. If they'd sent 1-2 LCAs over for static display/flight displays- THEN one could bother reporting on it.

In order to get an export order, we should have the below integrated to LCA, as a multi role fighter.

-Derby+P-5 (confirmed for A2A)
-PGM - Sudarshan.(done)

Pending..

-Stand Off - Kh59ME/Nag
-Anti Ship -Kh35/mini Brahmos
-Anti Radar - Kh 31

How? Does HAL have that facility?
for 40 odd mk 1... hal cannot start a production facitlity to produce 25-30 p.a and keep the facility and hired staff without work once mk1 order is completed till the mk2 hits production! its not economically viable... as it may take mk2 atleast 4 years to be ready for production... so hal calculated the time set it to 8-16 ac...
if it has further orders for mk1 it can surely ramp up production!..

For Tejas Mk1 no body except India will buy it. it's range is too short and is more of a kind of trainer than a fighter.
But Mk2 may turn out to be a real game changer for DRDO/HAL. Hope this aircraft comes out soon..
otherwise the plan of export will remain a plan forever..., even if other countries shows interest in it.:tup:

Its just models they are showcasing.!

Which is the right way to do it, the AWACS deployment is just a waste!

@sancho

That depends on what market they are aiming on. The Gulf region for example is basically a no go for LCA, as long as we advertise it with Israeli weapons and systems, which makes this PR show useless too. For countries that can use Israeli systems, or that already has a base of Russian techs (Mig 21 customers), LCA could be an interesting alternative.
So instead of wasting time and money showing off their underperformance, DRDO should increase work on indigenous MMR, Kaveri engine, Astra BVR missiles, Sudarshan LGB and Helina ATGM, which will make LCA more interesting and much cheaper for potential export customers.

Btw, forget about Brahmos mini and most likely also Kh59, not going to happen.

It ain't easy selling fighter jets.....specially when you are not targeting rich countries.....not only does the jet has to be good....you have to ensure them that you can provide long term support and soft loans to buy your product! What are the target countries btw??
