(Bloomberg) — Canada is about to face a canola crunch that could add new costs for farmers in the midst of a trade tussle with their biggest buyer.

With China snubbing canola purchases, stockpiles of the oilseed as of March 31 were at their highest level for the time of year since 1980. With much of the 2018 harvest sitting in bins, many growers could find themselves forced to buy new storage capacity for the 2019 crop they’re now in the process of planting.

The cost: An average of C$2 ($1.49) per bushel, or about C$60,000 for a bin large enough to hold 30,000 bushels, according to Dave Wall, the president and sales manager at Winnipeg, Manitoba-based Wall Grain Handling Systems, a grain bin and dryer dealer. That could create a cash-flow problem for many growers, Wall said.

But, Chinese 60b Tariff means "DO NOT ENTER" China market. So Trump wants to make Chinese 240b export more expensive, but China kills US 60b export.

240b Chinese export to US = decrease in profit.
60b US export to China ==> 0 export.

As far as I know, GMO foods are forbidden in China.

China's exports to US declined about 5%.
US export to China declined about 25%.

In the same time, China's total trade has increased, which means China has diversified exports/imports to/from the US.

I am not sure how do the US global trade fare these months.

Ever since I came across an article about 10 years ago by a PHD researcher from US, stating adverse effect of Canola oil, I have stop consuming canola oil as well margarine.

Since alternative edible oil are can be obtained such as peanut oil, corn oil, olive oil sunflower seed oil etc, why consume canola oil?

God did not created canola oil, the Canadian did it. LOL!
