Arjun Mk2 is already under user trial with fantastic all round performance... It is time for augment it with advanced features,

My wishlist
-120mm Smoothbore Main Gun (L55-Leopard 2 Gun)
- Turret must be redesigned, Currently it looks Boxy and heavy with only ~280 degree of rotation
- 50~55 ton weight
- 1500hp gas turbine engine

What your's idea about it ?

.
I'd say an Arjun Mk.III was unlikely, once the Arjun Mk.II is in production efforts will switch to the FMBT.

.
FMBT project gets no favour from Defence ministry ... Arjun Mk3 is a realistic choice ..

.
Contemporary Chinese and other tank are no match for T-90 S,
And Arjun mk 1 has outgunned and outrunred T90S=> Hence Arjun is a very potent platform.

My response:
1.A smooth-bore gun seems to be a must-have.
2.the boxy turret matters little. It is the bolt-on ERA that matters. Actually as conventional Armor Plating goes, the boxy design is better. There was the informed opinion of a professional "tank-man" on this forum, can't remember his name; was it Davis or something? That explained the advantages clearly.
3.50-55 tonne weight is certainly desirable, but not achievable with the current design. Has to be a new design from the ground-up.
4. 1500 horses under the hood may be good, but a GT engine is certainly not. In dusty, hot tropical conditions a GT engine is very prone to break-down. Not to mention that the GT engine will be severely degraded in normal performance. Just note that even Marine GT engines in the tropical areas operate at approx. 15% degraded levels. And that is not even in a dusty atmosphere.
Not to forget that GT engines are gas-guzzlers to the extreme and have a high heat-signature to boot. Both are again undesirable.

p.s. @ Jarha,
where did you get this 280 deg rotation from???
Even I've seen vids of full turret rotation, were my eyes were playing tricks???

Neither Arjun nor any heavy Tank gonna see any action across the peaks of himalayas. PERIOD.
What Arjun may do is, in case fielded in large nos in Rajasthan, it may cause mayhem across the western border. It's use will be limited across plains of Punjab.

not the best wishlist i'd think
1] 120mm smoothbore : could have been made in country...but the army requirements explicitly demanded a HESH firing capability. High explosive suash heads are reliant on rifling for accuracy. A smoothbore can be fitted...if the army changes reqquirements

2] turret redesign. possible. though not very necessary. Boxy armour works good with composites. The era makes the thing damn near impenetrable. the turret transverse is 360 degrees, not 280. so there's no problem there.

#] 55 ton weight. that's bringing it back to mk1 levels. means reducing the armour on the tanks. so how do you offset that so that survivability isnt a tradeoff. You cant. Best you can do is install a good hardkill aps and hope for the best. Right now there's NOTHING in the subcontinent that will go through kanchan. That's a BIG edge to have

4] 1500 hp gas turbine . That's be a bad idea. a gas turbine consumes 3 times as much fuel, cutting down the arjun's combat radius fast...we need great support tankers and ****...and it'll put them at undue risk in an armoured thrust....it takes time to start up and gas turbine....ttakes around 11 gallons of fuel on an m1 just to get it ready to use...also easier to damage them..more maintenence intensive.....

Please look at turret of Abram,Challenger or Leopard and for that matter T90 Bhisma all have inclined turret.. But Arjun mk 1 and to some extent mk2 have Boxy turret... I don't which idiot has designed a 3rd generation tank with Boxy design of Tiger tank Era.

.
my wishlist would be better era protection on the top, redesigned gunner's sight on the top of the gun, a good rcws air defence system, good aps,

It is real Non-sense ... Some say arjun can not be deployed in Punjab (too many rivers and bridges)...Nor in Rajsthan(Desert and sand dunes)... nor in J&K then where the hell one want to deploy it ?

.
Wish list huh?

Yeah.. okay.. i would like it to Fly, go over 200 miles per hour, Be able to operate on the oceans floor.. and fire lasers.

Wish list..

LOOOL, so the idiots should have taken your expert opinion before designing the turret?
As I said there is a reason for that boxy turret design, find that out before you get driven by what you consider to be 'current fashion trends'.

how many argun argun-2 are made and in service till today ?
