KARACHI:
Weeks after walking out on its alliance with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has developed a strong working relationship with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and could join the federal cabinet in the coming days.

According to sources, the two parties have almost ironed out all issues between them. And by next early month, the MQM could become part of the federal government, the sources added.

Leaders of the MQM, however, did not confirm whether their party would ultimately become part of the federal government. They admitted that their party had developed better relations with the PML-N, as the ruling party had agreed to release development funds for projects in Karachi.

Last month, when MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he raised the issue of unfinished developmental projects in Karachi including the Lyari Expressway, and demanded that the premier take necessary action.

One party leader said that the MQM wants to work with the PML-N on a long term basis. “MQM may or may not be part of the federal government. Even if we don’t become part of the federal government, we will continue to work with the PML-N.”

Saying no to the Sindh govt

The MQM has dismissed speculation that it would be joining the PPP-led government in Sindh, saying that it could not even think of getting back with them.

This has not stopped the PPP from trying to bring the two parties on the same page again. Both PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and his party colleague Rehman Malik have been holding talks with Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad in a bid to win over the MQM. Yet the MQM says it will not consider becoming a part of the Sindh government again.

“The last time the MQM joined the Sindh government was based on a decision taken by the Rabita Committee and not by the MQM chief Altaf Hussain, who was displeased over it. This time if the Rabita Committee takes this decision, there will be a lot of resistance and opposition from within the party.”

The MQM leader said that since the party has left the provincial government, it has gotten a lot of public support and its disgruntled voters and supporters are returning to the party.

Why is MQM trying so hard to become yet another LOTA party?

trying too hard? they always were a lota party, but lets see if it changes its directions yet again after today's announcement of two universities from malik riaz.....

Say what you want about MQM, they certainly know how to get concessions out of the government. If they can get those funds released for Karachi then I'd say job well done.

Politics is like this - you do whatever you need to in order to gain and/or maintain power. It's not good but it is what it is, unfortunately. Honesty and actual humanity is extremely rare in this dirty and bloody game.
Arguably, MQM may have started as a good cause but it rapidly degenerated into a mafia. MQM has seen and done more action than most Hollywood movies combined (not a good thing), it's nothing unexpected if they're doing some lota-baazi now.

MQM wants to deliver value to its voters and wants to extend its vote bank across the Sindh province. However, PPP won't let it happen as they'll lose their vote bank in return. Plus, PPP government don't really deliver anything (historically). So why not join hands with the ruling party who actually is delivering and is about to change the face of Pakistan in the next a couple of years to come? I don't think this is complicated, this makes sense. Anyone who wants to be a part of a growing Pakistan should align themselves with people that are actually DOING something, vs. just talk, negative politics, threats, sit ins and all that other unproductive drama!

Your love for PMLN is exceptional - perhaps you need to live in their backyard Punjab for a few months and you'll see how much they are really 'delivering'.

And if you think MQM wants to 'deliver value to its voters', your naivete and ignorance is dangerously extreme.

Here we go again. You are the shift 2 of IK's propaganda team. There are people in three shifts I've noticed. How much you guys get paid an hour??

For the record (and I've told you this a MILLION times before). I don't love anyone. What's right is what I'll write about. If IK tomorrow says, I'm leaving the sit-in, I'll contact the supreme court and if I don't get the decision I need, as a good leader and as someone who is against violence and cares for the Pakistani people, I'll wait till the next election and will educate people. If they elect me, its great. If not, I'll still play politics and wait. IF he does this, I'll write about it too as this is a democratic, respectful and non-violent way of showing leadership.
Getting people killed through calls for violence, accusations that change every hour without real proofs, accusing every single part of the system if they don't agree with your agenda (The Election Commission, the Supreme Court, the Intelligence Agencies, the Military at times, more than anything, the PEOPLE of Pakistan who he lies to)....is utter BS and waste of so much time. Not to mention he's directly responsible for innocents who get killed in these stupid actions like attacking the parliament.
So no one loves anyone, I write about the positive stuff anyone does for the nation of Pakistan. If IK joins that list, I'll gladly write good things about him too. But I can't write good things when he hasn't shown one!!

Winds of change!!!? Are you serious. This is status quo. No wind. No change. If not PPP, MQM will sleep with PMLN. Its a political prostitute. I have said it several times. It cant stay away from power.

MQM Is the best example of thook kar chatna. characterless politicians and characterless parties with no clear rules or ethics or morals. how on earth can these guys join the party/people/person they were busy abusing, calling liars, cheater, fraud a just a few days ago?

Politics is just a cover, these are all criminals pouncing on any opportunity to make money, even if it means backtracking 180 degrees.

You are the one who starts bashing PTI in threads that are not even related to it or IK. You seem to be the one doing the propaganda here.

You said you would write good things about IK if he did good for Pakistan. The fact that you ignored all this proves that this is a lie.
Liar.
