Now, which one of these roles does a Chinese jet (which no one really knows what it's truly capable of) fill?

I can't know, but i said that Chinese jet (J-31) will probably has inferior avionics next to F35. If the shit goes down for real in Trump government and if the sale blocked, there is only J-31 in F35 class, as of yet. We may need to purchase 120 of J-31 to cover our needs, instead of 100 F35.

As far as i know, other nations working in stealth jets for air superiority purpose (as we do). I don't see any other multirole 5th gen jet other than J-31 and F35.

Honestly I dont think there is an urgent need for F-35. Other than Israel none of our neighbours are acquiring it and none are match to our air force. Their cost and upkeep would be burden right now. I would rather focus on air defence and TF-X right now. F-35 can be reconsidered in future when our relationships get milder.

I think Turkey will get its examples in June.

However, the success of TFX and other indigenous programs is critical.

Anti Turkish lobbyists are working hard in Washington. (pro-Israeli, Armenian and Greeks)

Going forward, it will be important to pivot away from US sourced systems and develop Turkish ones as well as cooperate with the UK and other high quality partners.
I think turkey will one day need Pakistani nuke umbrella and pak will needbturkish conventional weapons tech

I have my doubts about Chinese fighter aircraft in RAM, Avionics, Radar...quality.

In worst case scenario, Turkey would integrate it's own radar and avionics (at lease some of them, i don't think China would agree to let us put our own mission computer). J-31's shape is far more smoother than F35, in theory, if they have good RAM, then J-31 have a chance to get better stealth capability.

The Greek F16 modernization is for sure concerning. They even get AESA radar. How are we going to give a response? Other than the air defense systems we are waiting we must be able to give a response from the air. The F35's deep strike capability is also a good thing. If we are not going to modernize our F16's for now we must get F35.

With new AKinci UAV with AESA radar Turkey will have great response.. They will be cheap and fly longer. I wish somebody here could know that can these drones fight with real jets?
Those have no idea what im talking, today it was mentioned that by 2020 Turkey will add drone that have 4.5 ton of weight and 1.5 ton capacity to carry and will also have AESA radar which means it will be able to protect the skies..

not until trumb wants to make america great again.. F35 to turkey means a lot of money and a lot of work for americans

I also think F35 could be sold to UAE, Qatar, and SA specially after good ties with Israel and possible war against Iran..

dont we have aesa radar pod for f16 from aselsan? would that not be enough?

Yeah but when are the first deliveries of the modernizied Greek F-16s? ...2019/2020?

And 85 F-16V are not really a threat...

They will get all of them by 2028. Are you sure about not being a threat? AESA radar, BVR missiles is pretty deadly combination.

We have almost everything to bring our F16s to Block 70/72 standards but the question is are we going to do it?

Just curious about your opinions. Will Turkey receive the f35 fighters or will the US block its sale to Turkey?

Turkey needs to boost working on TFX and bring tech from EU as much possible or get some JV with Russia or China.

A JV on J-31will be good for both China and Turkey as both can share tech and experience where they can.

I suppose it depends on whether we need stealth or not. Because buying into a non NATO system comes with huge headaches too. Like friend or foe systems, weapons and integration etc.

We also expect the F35 to act as a sort of fleet commander because she's so integrate into other NATO systems, the Chinese or Russian systems won't have this capability and only act as a weapons platform that carries their weapons, not NATO ones.

I personally think we can go for cheaper F15C planes (second hand) if the F35 is somehow stopped (highly skeptical). At least until our TFX project takes proper shape and we can take it from there.

Fighter jets and UAV's are no match, not even close I'm afraid. Everyone expects gen7 fighters to be fully autonomous UAV's that will take the fighters places - not even gen6 planes are expected to be competitive drones on their part - just highly advanced jets.

Akinci is a great project, but if i'm not mistaken it's more like a predator drone (haven't looked at it in detail, but it looks to be in the same league).

The main reason why we went for F35 was that Airforce wants deep-strike stealth fighter jet. Filling the gap with any non-stealth platform wouldn't make sense at all. Yes F15 doesn't have any internal payload for cruise missiles/smart bombs, therefor it will light like a bulb in the radar image when it loaded with weapons under the wings, is not "stealth" at all.

Why would get F15 anyway, Airforce plans to use MMU in air-superiority roles. The role that Airforce asks has following capabilities;

> Stealth
> Multirole

There is only F35 and J31 on earth with such capabilities, as of yet.

I think the S-400 and our HISAR is a bigger threat for Greek Pilots, than they are for us...

Turkey can modernize it's F-16s but will the US allow it? And is it worth it?

F-15E = Multirole and Strike fighter.

F-15 Eagle = Air superiority fighter.
