Will never do anything detrimental to India’s security: Russia

Weeks after it signed a military cooperation agreement with Pakistan, Russia on Monday said it will never do anything “detrimental” to India’s security interests and that the pact does not envisage supply of any defence equipment to that country immediately.

Calling India as a time tested ally and “closest friend”, Russian Ambassador Alexander Kadakin said Russia’s relations with Pakistan have “separate value” but they will not be at the expense of ties with New Delhi.

“Never ever will Russia do anything to the detriment of India’s security. India is the closest friend of my country,” Kadakin said addressing a press conference on the eve of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit here from December 10.

Noting that Russia has interest in Afghanistan, the envoy said improvement in its relations with Pakistan will help influencing the country to get “desirable action”.

“You (India) declared you are ready to have more dialogue, more contact to improve your relationship with Pakistan. Since we are strategic partners, why cannot Russia improve its relation with Pakistan the way India does. After all it will be easier for us to together influence it (to take) desirable action,” he said.

Pakistan and Russia on November 20 had signed a military cooperation agreement to deepen their defence ties and vowed to translate their relationship in “tangible” terms. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu had also visited Pakistan last month. The visit by a Russian Defence Minister to Pakistan came after a gap of 45 years.

India had reacted cautiously to the development saying it has noted the development.

“The frame work agreement which was signed with Pakistan does not envisage any immediate supply. It is just a framework agreement which we have with many countries,” Kadakin said.

“You must rest assured that India is Russia’s strategic partner and closest friend,” he said, adding Pakistan had asked for helicopters but they have not been given yet.

“Russia’s relations with Pakistan have their separate value. They have independent value. We also have a stake in Afghanistan,” he said.

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): Russian Ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin said on Monday that Russia and India share a strategic partnership and Russia will not do anything to threaten India's security. Kadakin explained that it is providing civilian helicopters to Pakistan, which will not harm India in any way. Further stressing upon Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India, Kadakin said that various memorandums shall be signed between the two countries during his visit.

This is some funny sh!t the Russians are pulling on us. What happens if we do a turn around and Pakistan gets ex-communicated by India - will the Russians too follow suit?.

On World stage position of allies is changing and new partnerships are forming, Russia need Pakistan as they know that every passing day India is becoming less dependent on them and now cozying with US and west, therefore they are also shifting slowly to find new interest based partnership, if current situation prevails like this and India keep milking Russia for tech then one day India will no longer need them, as US and west already offering more advance tech with TOT to them, but this will be slow divorce will take at least a decade or more but they will remain friends not become foes.

Did china come atleast once for your aid? Which country sells the frontline technologies to another country? Russia sold su-30, submarines, ACC, helped with space tech etc. Tell me one sensitice tech china sold you guys. Now compare...if relation between china and pakistan is deeper than ocean, higher than mountains, stronger than steel and sweeter than honey, what would you call relation between russia and india?

Ofcourse Russia can balance it's relations. But it is in the interest of every nation to forge a relation with stable nations. Any nation will be least interested to get into a partnership with a country which will only become a liability in the future.

India is better in terms of weapons building less dependent on other countries but it does not mean that India don't need others support, because if you did not need US approval then you had attacked Pakistan after Mumbai incident of 2008, still India is not as big as you think.

He is not talking about China and the relations of them to China are far different. Russian can't afford to lose China, just as they can't lose us, which is why they only would intervene if things goes really bad. As long as Russia remains to offer us more than our opponents I'm ok with them making some additional money, since that's what everybody does.
