Admiral Gorshkov-class frigate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not a chance.

The P-17As that are about to be constructed for the IN are as capable if not more so than this class, India no longer needs to look to others for building anything from Destroyer level down.
Why the hell?

We could even manufacture even our own AC, now? Why should be buy "any" foreign ship? Navy is not demanding it.

Why do people have so much love for phoren maal?
The problem is that our Yards are completely choked with orders spanning a decade.
And our Yards are also slow. These yards take 2-3 times the time for the same ship.

If the IN wants to expand at a faster rate there is no option but to place orders outside the country...

Or...The solution could also be that MoD grows some balls and orders warships from Indian private shipyards(not the coastal, OPV's that it is currently ordering).

Oh Bhai mere, here people are thinking of reducing imports hook or by crook and giving preference to indigenous products and here you are talking of importing ships when we can already build them in our own shipyards.
Yeah its true that Yards are completely filled with orders for a decade and are slow also but its also true that orders are more than enough to fulfill the existing needs of IN for near future, especially frigates.
Construction time will be reduced as all shipyards opt for modular construction.IN situation is not like IAF where no. of squadrons are going down each year effecting defence preparedness.
IN if anything should import only submarines and not any surface vessel.

Ideally we should import nothing.
And I clearly said - if IN wants to expand at a faster pace then it has to either import from abroad or allow private ship yards to get into full warship manufacturing.

Right now IN is barely above replacement level. Their rate of expansion is far below their desired level.
Its a call that MoD has to take - and one whose time has long passed - to allow private yards. They will start fleet additions fast.

Yards are getting modernized as we speak 2-3 years down the line this problem will be rectified

Indeed you are right in saying that if IN wants to expand at a faster pace than they have to import but the question is why would they want a more faster rate when current rate is satisfactory.IN already holds a decisive advantage against PN and its not like PN is inducting some game changing ships so it is totally unecessary to import frigates when indigenous shipyards are delivering satisfactorily.
You are right that MOD should pitch in more private shipyards also to reduce dependency on gov. owned shipyards.
PS- @Judge I like the way you present your posts,it very much matches with Contrarian's way of writng.:D

The current rate is not satisfactory. Not by a long shot. The indigenous shipyards are not delivering satisfactorily, not by a long shot.
This is why they have been given additional grants so that they start modular construction and are able to come somewhere close to the global benchmarks of production.

Pakistan Navy is not the primary threat for Indian Navy. The PLAN is. The Indian Navy infact wanted to import 2 subs out of the 6 under the new project so that they can induct them faster. That is what the IN wants - faster inductions that they are willing to import!

PLAN is a threat but not until they induct aircraft carriers because without air cover there surface vessels will be sitting ducks for Mig-29s.
There submarines will have to cross Malacca straits to challenge IN and we can deploy our ASW assets there to counter them effectively.
I am all for importing submarines but not surface vessels especially frigates.

If IN is not interested in Russian advance ships then in future few may end up in PN as relation between PN and Russian navy are growing fast.
