I think India's wild life is second only to Africa. @Cherokee What are the other 16 Mega diverse countries? I really doubt whether any single country could rival India in wildlife

Yes, they have great wildlife, but variety is quite low. Ex: Austarlia is rich in reptiles but poor in other variety;

India will beat hands down all the above countries in variety. Where else we can find three of the four big cats (Lions,Tigers, Leopards) existing in the world. Only Cheetah is missing. We have elephants, Rhinoceros, King Cobras, Bisons, Crocodiles....

No single country can beat India in wild life diversity

Brazil or China ?

India :)

Jade - the biggest fear for Indian wildlife is IF and a big IF, wild life sanctuaries are intruded / reduced in size due to huge population growth and commercial projects (mining etc).

True...there are efforts to conserve wildlife, but most has been for Tigers, Lions or elephants. We are forgetting the others. My father used say, he used to see so many King Cobras while walking to his school. Now it is very very rare to spot one.

yes. Its range includes southern Tibet, Sikkim and Assam in India.

Arunachal Pradesh, you meant.

I would like it to be India too, but how are you sure it is India ? I think China and Brazil would be contenders too.
