Financial woes’ push Waqt News to fire all employees
Published on October 30, 2018

LAHORE – Amid financial crunches being faced by print and electronic media with the formation of the new government, an Urdu news channel, Waqt News, has fired all of its employees.

The sad news was shared by a journalist Matiullah Jan on his Twitter, stating: “Whole of the Waqt News staff sacked and offices across Pakistan shut down”.

Earlier, the TV channel downsized its staff to handle what the local journalists called it an economic crisis but it later sacked all of its employees after succumbing to these problems, local media reported.

The media houses in Pakistan are suffering from financial difficulties since the PTI government stopped issuing advertisements.

Earlier this month journalists and media workers held rallies across the country, including Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi in protest against downsizing, stopping of advertisements and measures aimed at curbing newspapers circulation and TV channels’ transmission.

Main culprit behind today media is shiekh Rasheed .He introduced all these private media channels without proper verification and he is part of pti govt

Good. All these media godfathers and badmash should die a slow and painful death. After that new media policy should be made under which new channels and exisiting good channels which are not working against the state should be brought forward.

.
before Musharaf era there were not more media channels like today but when shiekh Rasheed was information minister he gave licences to geo and many other channels to operate in Pakistan who are involved in antistate reporting .He started this media culture in Pakistan before this media was easy to control
sheeda ? how ? just wanna know

Problem is with private channels. They had to come up with a business model enabling them to survive without ads. Starting private channels and giving them licences was actually a good thing. Without them you are forced to watch PTV.

That's why this bloody bas***d media starts campaign against IK government with these corrupt mafia (PPP & PMLn) there only love is money not Pakistan...

private channels are only given license by proper verification and regulation that the advertisement should not involve misinformation but shiekh Rasheed gave licences without making regulation properly and filled his pockets with this money he is responsible for this as he allowed these channels without investigating their owners connection with raw and foreign agencies

That is the job of a regulatory authority, which in the case of Pakistan is PEMRA and PCP. Both of these organizations were established in 2002, under Musharraf. But they have never really been autonomous. Under Zardari and Sharif, they were highly politicised and manipulated/manipulative.

If there was a political will, they could have fixed the media environment of Pakistan, and cleaned up the industry. But they only exacerbated the situation through their monetary support (ads). So you cannot so easily put the blame on Sheikh Rasheed.
