That is the job of a regulatory authority, which in the case of Pakistan is PEMRA and PCP. Both of these organizations were established in 2002, under Musharraf. But they have never really been autonomous. Under Zardari and Sharif, they were highly politicised and manipulated/manipulative.

If there was a political will, they could have fixed the media environment of Pakistan, and cleaned up the industry. But they only exacerbated the situation through their monetary support (ads). So you cannot so easily put the blame on Sheikh Rasheed.

Geo news owner was pro indian from begining and was allowed by shiekh Rasheed so he is responsible also there was no indian content on media channels before musharaf he allowed this and destroyed our culture.

Of course they are crying. Every Tom Dick and Harry opened up a newspaper or news channel in Pakistan to blackmail the government into giving them money. Every idiot became a news anchor or analyst to get free perks.

Hope at least half of these channels and newspapers close down and only the legit news analysts stay on.

The downside is that a lot of people will lose jobs. But the government can't be expected to fund these - like they have been doing PIA

100% agree. The state should not spend a single penny advertising on private media platforms. We need to follow the BBC model, have an international quality website, social media accounts, news channels and radio stations. We should even invest in a state owned newspaper which should be distributed at cost price, and that price should be bought down by putting paid advertising for products in that paper.

before Musharaf era there were not more media channels like today but when shiekh Rasheed was information minister he gave licences to geo and many other channels to operate in Pakistan who are involved in antistate reporting .He started this media culture in Pakistan before this media was easy to control
