Why Japan's formidable navy is considered the best in Asia

pls give some facts showing China’s navy has more quality than USN

I am curious.

Crashed destroyer not once but twice in peace time sorties which are very very basic seamanship require. Clearly show the quality is not there for the manpower.

US admiral sums up very well....

This is the USS John S. McCain being towed after it crashed in the summer of 2017, killing 10 sailors. One sailor had warned superiors: “It’s only a matter of time before a major incident occurs.”

This is the USS Fitzgerald, which crashed nine weeks earlier, killing seven sailors. An officer had told his bosses that his shipmates might die without changes.

YEARS OF WARNINGS, THEN DEATH AND DISASTER

When Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin was elevated to lead the vaunted 7th Fleet in 2015, he expected it to be the pinnacle of his nearly four-decade Navy career. The fleet was the largest and most powerful in the world, and its role as one of America’s great protectors had new urgency. China was expanding into disputed waters. And Kim Jong-un was testing ballistic missiles in North Korea.

Aucoin was bred on such challenges. As a Navy aviator, he’d led the “Black Aces,” a squadron of F-14 Tomcats that in the late 1990s bombed targets in Kosovo.

But what he found with the 7th Fleet alarmed and angered him.

Investigation finds officials ignored warnings for years before one of the deadliest crashes in decades.

The fleet was short of sailors, and those it had were often poorly trained and worked to exhaustion. Its warships were falling apart, and a bruising, ceaseless pace of operations meant there was little chance to get necessary repairs done. The very top of the Navy was consumed with buying new, more sophisticated ships, even as its sailors struggled to master and hold together those they had. The Pentagon, half a world away, was signing off on requests for ships to carry out more and more missions.

The risks were obvious, and Aucoin repeatedly warned his superiors about them. During video conferences, he detailed his fleet’s pressing needs and the hazards of not addressing them. He compiled data showing that the unrelenting demands on his ships and sailors were unsustainable. He pleaded with his bosses to acknowledge the vulnerability of the 7th Fleet.

Well, Japan had deployed AESA radar on warships since the late 1980s. They were the first country to do so.

Yes, thats good in 80s tech.

But in their next gen destroyer (Kongo, Atago, and even Maya) they using PESA.
Even US already move to AESA in their Flight III arleigh burke destroyer

Meanwhile China already using AESA Radar for their Type 052C Destroyer, Type 052D Destroyer, and now their Type 055 Cruiser even using much more Powerful Next Gen AESA Radar (Type 346B)

if I'm not mistaken Asahi and akizuki clas DDG uses GaN AESA radar...

Yes that's right.

It wasn't nect gen, it was parallel with SPY-1D. Next Gen AESA as mentioned by striver44 was used introduced with the Akizuki-class in 2012.

But keep enjoying your red book of "China iz da bestest of bestest now and ever morrz!!"

Type 346B AESA Radar onboard Type 055 Cruiser is a Next Gen AESA Radar because they using latest GaN Technology

Last but not least, some more information on the Type 055's Type 346B AESA radar emerged. According to this source, the Type 055 is equipped with advanced active phased array radar with a larger diameter than the Type 346A radar fitted aboard the Type 052C class. One Type 346B radar array is larger than the 4.3x4.3 meter of the Type 346A arrays. The transmitter and receiver unit (is also using the latest Chinese gallium nitride (GaN) technology. Finally this new radar system is reportedly capable of fire control as well.

Yeah, keep your biased and enjoy living in 90s mindset

We are in 2020 right now :D

Where does it say Type 346B uses GaN?

if I'm not mistaken JMSDF AEGIS Destroyers are the exclusive operators (in Asia) of SM3- block IIA Standard ABM ( the most advanced variant), which is proven time and time again in intercepting ballistic missiles.

Ok, thank you for the link.

It's a 2017 article, possibly a one off of incorrect information. Incorrect info happens. The arrays on the Type 55 are very big, but still called just theB version even though adding in GaN should dramatically alter the design because of much dufferent energy consumption, density, heat, and so on.

I don't mean to press you to quickly find another article, but if the claim by the PLA officer from that Chinese article could be crossed check with some more articles at a later time, then that would build confidence that it does indeed use GaN. The first Type 55 was comissioned in 2020 so surely a restatement of GaN use would be officially stated again if its so.

Biased again.

Thats news after the launching of Type 055 Cruiser, after official release of specifications, and also the Type 055 Cruiser Program already started building since many years before, 2014

You just cannot accept that China Radar Technology is far ahead than what you think before

I'm not trying to groundlessley knock on the Type 55 so as to win impression points.

The problem when there are so many trolls on a forums is that even if some posters are sincerely not trolling, they are still assumed to be trolling.

Disinformation and misinformation for different reasons happens. Need more to get to the bottom of it. Even Pro-China posters repeat that about PRC weapon development quite a bit over at sinodefenseforums.

Grabbing the meaning of GaN in Chinese, 氮化镓, with Type 55 destroyer, or 55型驱逐舰, and several articles come up saying that the Type 346B uses the latest GaN. These two are May 2019 and March 2020. So if they are just echoing the reference to the 2017 statement, then its a bit of false information still going around. But if its its based on more official statements, then it seems to have it. Well after all, GaN is very heavy and energy thirsty so the big size of the Type 55 may help support the systems that enable the use of GaN in large arrays.

When did SM-3 proven time again and again capable of Intercepting ballistic missile?

It's interception rate is the most 50% and is capable of taking single ballistic missile target. Never demonstrated against multiple ballistic missile attack.

Still a more substantial test record than DF-21D.

DF-21 has very precise strike rate and Chinese will not be kind to fire one DF-21 for one Japan or US warship. SM-3 has yet to demonstrate capable of taking multiple ballistic missile attack couple with decoy deployed. This is fact. American war exercise is not realistic enough and is more for domestic consumption only... It don't work in real life. :enjoy:
