No political leader would openly demand independence for Tamil Nadu because in 1962 (H)Indian parliament passed a law that any party demanding independence for a region would be banned and cannot contest in elections.

Remove that ban threat and I am 100% sure that Karunanidhi, Vaiko, Ramadoss and Tirumavalavan would openly call for Tamil Nadu independence.
