Yea i have explained in my post why you dont mind. As a brahmin or some other upper caste like Nair you will degrade your people and language just to keep your caste identity which you think Delhi will protect like Brits did.

I think the density of population points that out, only prosperous civilisations could support a growing population simply because of Malthusian constraints.
For their current state, I think the caste tensions, religious tensions, land based conflicts, freight equalisation policy and the historical extortionists policy of British and their predecessors led them to this stage.
I don't know for sure but I think caste and religion plays most important role in backward states.
