Antonov An-124 NATO SALIS Program Extended Through End of 2010

On December 18, 2008 the contract, concluded on January 17, 2006 between NAMSA (NATO Maintenance and Support Agency), representing NATO interests and Ruslan SALIS GmbH, representing ANTONOV ASTC (Ukraine) and Volga-Dnepr (Russia) group of companies was prolonged. The contract was prolonged till December 31, 2010. According to them AN-124-100 Ruslan airplanes of Antonov Airlines and Volga Dnepr are used within the limits of NATO SALIS (Strategic Airlift Interim Solution) programme. These aircraft carry out cargoes by requests of 18 countries: Belgium, Hungary, Greece, Denmark, Canada, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, United Kingdom, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden.

Prolongation of the Contract is the bright evidence of high evaluation of AN-124 Ruslan and the work performed within the limits of SALIS. Airplans of Antonov Airlines engaged in the programme, performed 550 flights and transported more than 33000 t of different cargoes. The mechanism consisting of airplanes crews and operating service organizing transportations, proved its effectiveness. In accordance with the contract 2 AN-124-100 aiplanes are constantly based in the airport of Leipzig (Germany). In case of necessity the additional machines are being provided by request. At that Ruslans must not return to their main base in Kiev or Ulianovsk as the base of their maintenance works in Leipzig Halle from January 2007.

Where does this say that US uses this Plane to carry suplies to afghanistan via Karachi??? For what purpose it will land at karachi when they go directly to begram air base??

This was probably the Aircraft Carrying US military supplies for afghanistan that was forced to land in karachi by PaF. There was another thread running!

I know that was different aircraft not this Anotov 124!!

I am amazed at the immaturity of Pakistani members, just pic of a plane can work on their imaginations! You kids didn't learn anything from Kamra attack, and btw defence deals take years to finalize/materialize its not like Generakl Kiyani visitied some Kiryan store in Russia to buy AIK PAO MASOOR KI DAAL which was promptly delivered in a few weeks.

In 2007 Anotov 225 came in Karachi, Dont know the reasons!

Alot of sorties were made during the 2005 Earthquake. My house was right in the flight path, and when this beast passed over head, the windows rattled!!

These are charter airplanes, which usually make flights for transporting cargo. Volga-Dnepr is the company that does the transporting.

Again talking about Russia...yes Russia want a peaceful neighourhood....and apart from that Russia really mean to stabilize Afganistan after USA moves out...That is why it is alligning with Pakistan...Even if to stabilize Afganistan and bringing peace in South Asia is a objective of Russia, India should welcome when Russia is making a friendship gesture to Pakistan.....Peace in South Asia wll provide rich dividend to India....

These 2 planes show what russians can do in aviation. They have built many more masterpieces. Unforturnatly they couldn't dominate the world aviation market. But their industry and design expertise on par with west. We should make a separate thread for Russian aviation showcase.

On topic: This plane in Pakistan means something is being shipped there. Maybe arms to hit India.

American Cargoes Come from Pakistans Ports Through Trailers to afghanistan And other sensitive military hardware is transported to afghanistans Kandahar Air base On C17 Globemasters!! America only uses its own Cargo aircrafts, Since Transporting by air costs America 10 Times more than shiping to Pakistan, America Ships Military hardware to UAE And then from UAE to Kabul on its C17 Aircrafts.

I have seen this plane every time I have been to Karachi. Sometimes in this livery and sometimes all white. May be it stops over on route to Afghanistan.
