Why is metro rail construction costlier in Bangladesh?

Of course, as a suppa pawa citizen you can't accept anything better or bigger in Bangladesh than India. That's why first 3 points are false and the last 3 are true.:P

Prove it, how it gonna be better?

Are you guys talking about this tin can???

What the Indian fools here do not understand is that BD is a very densely populated country and so the extra cost compared to India does not matter as more people will be able to use the facilities. Cost per person is about the same.

So much butt-hurt that Japan and BD have linked up to build a world class Metro and transport system for Dhaka by 2035.

Lol you are the one who is butthurt ... Under ground network is cheaper than yours...

Good for any developments in India.

BD is progressing well with the help of it's partners and so no need for butt-hurt people to comment when
it is not wanted.
Lol its ur country men who started this comparison. Everyone here agrees that its a good project but BD ppl here are comparing it with indian metro systems and saying its better, and when presented facts that is not, you are coming up with rhetorics. There is no sense in comparing so guys just move on and don't compare urself with our systems which have been operating here for longer than even the time Dhaka metro idea has been around.
Cheerio.

I thought there were enough debates on this topic...

The cost per km of Indian metro rails here includes underground sections. Dhaka metro's line 6 is elevated & it should be compared to elevated lines only.

1. Mumbai metro, Delhi metro (older lines) stations are designed for eight coach rakes whereas Delhi metro phase III, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata etc are designed for six coach rakes. These aren't smaller than Dhaka metro.

2. Again no, see this news article about Dhaka metro rolling stock.

The cars will be 19·8 m long, 4·1 m high and 2950 mm wide

http://www.metro-report.com/news/si...a-dream-as-rolling-stock-contract-signed.html

Nearly all heavy/medium metro rail carriages in India have same width & are longer at 21.6-22.6 m. The Delhi & Hyderabad RS are wider at 3.2m.

3. I wouldn't comment as this is not a field I am interested in. I think @Chaosmaster have answered it correctly.

4. Agreed, but shouldn't that reflect on O&M cost rather than construction cost ?

5. Because we have enough expertise & we employ Indian consultants. :)

6. Indian made rolling stock is cheaper, but isn't as cheap as what is made out here.

Refer the above link which states that or Dhaka rolling stock where the average cost of a carriage comes to around ~$2.5 million. Compare that to this Kolkata metro contract where cost is around $1.6 million per carriage.

http://themetrorailguy.com/2017/06/22/kmrc-unveils-design-of-kolkata-metros-new-beml-trains/

So Japanese rolling stock wouldn't increase definitely will not increase cost as much as argued here.

Nope, BD media is the god's honest truth bro. They have never ever been wrong on a single thing before lol....much less deliberately reported falsehoods..... BD is paragon of truth in the world hehe, world's most transparent and highest credibility, all thanks to the omega-3, marine protein and BBSSSSSSS ;) @django @Game.Invade @Major Sam @Valar.

Yes, underground lines are 3 times more costly as elevated ones. that's why BD line should be compared with only elevated line to make the comparison more fair.
How does that make sense when the elevated one itself is much costlier than the underground one built in another country?

Why is it so hard for people to get that building metros in Dhaka would cost much more than Indian cities? Dhaka is the densest city on earth, by a huge margin. Land is very costly and there's little to no space. You have to remove all the previous infrastructures, like electric cables, water pipeline and everything out of the way of where the metro line would be and re-wire or implement them in different places. Also, this is the first one and is being done by foreign institute JICA and have to import a lot of things.

Ever heard of the city of Bombay?

Not only is line 3 fully underground, but also meanders its way under the city’s historical district, cutting through existing utilities (most of which had to be shifted), under conditions varying from very soft marshy portions to solid bedrock. Unlike in the case of most elevated lines where metro infra is built on medians and existing carriageways, lots of new temporary roads have had to be built in order to accommodate TBM introduction & support, some above-ground structures had to be demolished and their tenants rehoused etc.

We are Building under ground network @ much cheaper than elevated in Dhaka.. don't say land in Dhaka much costlier than Delhi and Mumbai..

Anyone aware of fares that Dhaka metro is contemplating owing to increasing costs? Metros are popular because they have guaranteed ETA from point A to B.

Now a majority of Indians works in time sensitive fields or their scheduled tied as both parents are working.

Now I wonder who in Bangladesh would want a guaranteed travel time where society, to put mildly, is tad primitive to other metros. And garments industry doesn't demand employees to be strictly by the clock.

As someone said, why would 8 Bangladeshis would travel in 1 m^2

Have you? Dhaka has density of 44,500/km2 and second Mumbai has 31,700/km2 which is a gigantic difference. And as for the idiot that bought Delhi, 10th densest city has 9,600/km2 and your Delhi isn't even in the top 10.

Dhaka is an unplanned city and the densest by a mile and a half, as I have said before. Which makes it costly for new projects like this where you have to spend so much money before metro itself begins building. We probably have to acquire more privately owned land, redo other infrastructure that is in the way of metro lines. Also the fact that it's being build by foreign institute JICA and have to import a lot of the products raising the cost higher.
