What's new

Why is a retired, Christian tough cop feeling threatened in India today?

Yes, Buddhism is a Dharmic religion that originated from South Asia, so it makes sense that there are a lot of similarities.

Dharmic religions share a similar worldview, for example they believe in karma and reincarnation. There is no "permanent heaven or hell" like in the Abrahamic religions.

For us, what happens after you die is you appear before King Yama in the underworld for judgment. You only stay in the underworld long enough to "reset" your karma, after which you ate reincarnated into one of the planes of existence.

I guess I will probably be reincarnated as an 阿修羅 (Axiuluo = Asura).

:partay:

The bold parts, is it Buddhism or Hinduism you are talking about?

We have King Yama too, even Japanese and Koreans believe in that.

Is it??

Both I guess?

Karma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"With origins in ancient India, it is a key concept in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism,Sikhism,[7] and Taoism.[8]"

Yep, though the Japanese pronounce his name as "King Enma" (but the characters are the same as Chinese).

Koreans call him "King Yeomna".

We say Yan Wang (King Yama). All derived from the Sanskrit word "Yama".

Well you would be surprised to know that i lived with Christian families, in a Christian neighbor hood with my home being few meters away from a beautiful Church for most of my life. I never ever felt any kind of religious bigotry propagated there.
But i agree with you on the fact that certain missionaries are in this conversion business.
There are two types of Christians. - One - you see... Two - those that hide in here.

Loved the last sentence - 'we hope we can finish this unfinished task'.

LOL I was describing Chinese Buddhist beliefs. :P

Didn't you know that China has more Buddhists than the rest of the world combined? Even my own family are Chinese Buddhists.
I know.
I'm not taking about this post Yama san post of yours. From all your previous post you seems to know more about SA than most of the desi members around here. And off course your knowledge about east Asia quite unparalleled.
And whats with all the pro-Hindu posts lolzz. I thought you were a agnostic-atheist of Buddhist background ..

In Chinese Buddhist mythology, what happens after you die is you appear before King Yama (閻王) in the underworld for judgment. You only stay in the underworld long enough to "reset" your karma, after which you are reincarnated into one of the planes of existence.

What if you're incarnated as a Duck which is just about to become a Peking Roast Duck because fate has decided that you need to have a taste of Heaven and Hell as well ? :o:

Heaven for me when I'm munching on that Duck ! :D

And Hell for.....

Dont take it wrongly ..
Its also told that" punarapi jananam punarapi marananam "
Means you take birth again and die again ..Its in a single life ..
You can die and born again in a single life ..One need to understand it in its true sense ..Though its almost impossible to kill all your self and born again but every human dies and come again refined in his mind ..Great souls can do it again and again achieving maximum level of conscience..
Yad baavam thadbhavathi is another shloka related to same subject

I don't actually know that much about South Asia. And people are quick to pounce when I make mistakes.

I just don't like it when Western missionaries come and degrade and insult "native religions" in developing countries.

Do I go to their countries and their houses and tell them their Gods and religions are fake? I wouldn't waste the plane ticket, they should do the same.

I thought you were a agnostic-atheist of Buddhist background ..

If you know that then you are not a new member here, are you? :azn:

Well i have been posting here for nearly one year & have been a regular reader of this forum for nearly 2 years lolz... I just changed my user name mate.

Well sir just read about how Christianity is trying to expand in China.

I don't get it, they already have 2 billion followers, why are they so desperate for more?

Why are they sending missionaries to every developing country they can get their hands on?

Why can't people follow their own native religions? Don't tell me the Nordic Gods or the Greek Gods were too boring, that they should have been wiped out and replaced by another from halfway across the world?

That church shouldn't even be there. It would be a better use of land if it was turned into a parking lot.

Missionaries are all over the developing world right now.

Well i agree with you my dear friend. I think East Asian nations especially , S.Korea is religiously unorganized hence become easy targets to these missionaries. But they work under the rules of respective countries in most cases and China has every right to take action against any of these missionaries if they go against rule of the land. And you yourself have posted ample article/posts on the same topic-- ie. about the spread of Christianity in China.
But it's not the same here in India, Christianity actually arrived here nearly 200 years before the first person actually converted to Christianity in Britain. And we have different set of rules here and religions are quite organised also .

Ours is a little different. You appear in front of Chitragupta, the scribe who records every activity you've ever done.

I want to ask you one qn related to Buddhism. Why dalai lama never attains moksha. Why he takes one birth after another? He is the Supreme Buddhist I guess. Can you clarify the point.
