Why have we failed to promote tourism?

Some promotions are on going though but not enough.. I saw "Beautiful Bangladesh" promo in BBC recently.

If you look at the top 10 most visited countries France , Spain , Italy , China , USA , UK , Germany , Malaysia , Turkey all have very diverse landscapes . That is why Switzerland despite having one of the best mountain Landscapes or Maldives having the best beaches lag behind in visitor numbers to the countries which are very diverse .

Big European countries like France, Spain receive more tourist and small European countries like Switzerland get less number of tourist.But Per capita Switzerland get more tourist than France or Spain.Western Europe is the most interconnected part of the world.They move within countries by bus,train,plane a lot.So their tourist number is very high.It is more about interconnectivity than diverse landscape.Netherlands,Poland don't have diverse landscape,still they get very large number of tourist.

Another thing that might hurt BD is that not alot of people around the world are aware of it . It might be the least well known big country(Population) in the world

What is the source of your this claim? I see Bangladesh get pretty good media coverage around the world, even in the Latin America.Bangladesh is one of the major developmental case study in the world.Our performance generate much curiosity around the world.Currently there is a debate going on in America,whether US state Mississippi is better or worse of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh generated much media storm in the United States when it was found out that Donald Trump and his supporter is using 'Made In Bangladesh' cap, tea-shirt while campaigning for 'Make America great again'. Some gullible American on the street thinks that, Bangladesh is the name of Capital of India.It means they have heard it enough time to put it as the capital of India rather than New Delhi.But we should not focus on those gullible American too much.I am sure,If you ask them 'What is Pakistan?' they will say, 'It is a province of Afghanistan.

To promote you don't need ultra luxury resorts or absolute hovels - you need the majority of your hotels in 3 star category near a party place or a natural tourist attraction. That's where India lags - you have the top notch hotels and the completely pathetic ones but nothing in between although that is changing with chains like Ginger.

I'd like to visit Bangladesh one day, Maybe coincide with my trip to Myanmar which is high on my bucket list @Aung Zaya.. Heard nightmarish stories about Dhaka though unfortunately, Have some Lankan contacts involved in the apparel sector domiciled there, I bet places like Cox's Bazaar and Chittagong hills are far better prospects

Btw is it true that foreign passport holders must book 5 star accommodation and wont be allowed lower class hotels ? Is this due to security reasons? @Bilal9 @Doyalbaba

Unfortunately,This observation is correct.Decades of under investment in physical infrastructure combined with huge growth of population and unplanned urban growth has created an unbearable condition in Dhaka.If you can avoid Dhaka,Than rest of the country is not that congested.

Unfortunately,This observation is correct.Decades of under investment in physical infrastructure combined with huge growth of population and unplanned urban growth has created an unbearable condition in Dhaka.If you can avoid Dhaka,Than rest of the country is not that congested.

This is what i was told by a couple of people, A friend of mine from Perth working in a global logistic firm traveled to Dhaka few months back, He was actually accompanied by a armed guard provided at the airport right up to his hotel, Most probably as a precaution right after the terrorist attacks.. I'm sure things have settled down now

Dude this is not true. Purbani hotel is booked by a lot of foreigners and it is a 3 star hotel.

Gilgit-Baltistan has breath taking scenery,no doubt.But it contain only 1 million people.If Bangladesh's landscape was similar to Gilgit-Baltistan then it would have been a country of only 2 million people!Can you imagine our international position with only 2 million people?

As far as I can see it, Bangladesh has very tough competition in its niche of tourism. Its a tropical country, much like other competitors in the region such as India (Goa/Kerala coast), Sri Lanka and Thailand. However these players entered the market long before Bangladesh and have as such established "brand" names. Bangladesh as a the newer player somehow needs to make itself stand out.

If we keep aside all these huff and puff,it can't be denied that Pakistani ruling elite have an old habit of regional discrimination and developing some places at the expense of others.Before 1971 it was the East Pakistan,after that it is the smaller provinces that are being robbed to prop up northern Punjab and Islamabad.

And as a member of Pakistani elite club you have no guilt to support this system as long as it doesn't pierce your comfort shell.Now a days,elite Pakistanis are creating vast gated community amidst sea of poverty and chaos to shield themselves of from the day to day struggle of common people.Those islands of prosperity have created an illusion of Dubai or Paris inside a poor third world country.See this video to understand what I meant.

There is no such rule, but you should stay in a 5 star, they are not that expensive. Majority of these 5 stars are actually more like 3 star hotels you d find elsewhere.
