Excuse me, Osho was hounded out of USA on false charges. Hare Krishna movement was completely bankrupted and discredited when its followers were involved in sex scandals. You are very misinformed about what happens in USA or belaboring under the false impression that Hindu transgressions are overlooked. It is not the same in India where actually Minorities religious institutions get away with murder. Nityananada case again proves the anti-Hindu bias and prejudice of the Indian media and institutions. He was exonerated of all charges and there was not a shred of evidence of wrong doing on his part. What he does sexually with another consenting grown up woman frankly is nobody's business.

Yah but problem with Catholic church specifically is that they have centralised the power structure around Rome (Vatican City). They are actually the last remnant of the most corrupt part of the Roman Empire (one that brought down all the other parts of it). Their equivalent for eastern roman empire is the orthodox church.

I can't think of any other religion that does this to the same level, most are decentralised....even ones with a centralised dogma like Islam. Others that are centralised (other churches) promote reform in some way (like the Anglicans) and are more open to criticism or are simply not big enough and rich enough to have the same effect as the Catholic church.

It is this centralisation that made it (and makes it) extremely hard to prosecute and fully punish individuals....because they are sheltered by a corrupt and huge power structure.....who's intent is not justice but self preservation (in complete opposition to its own doctrine ironically).

Then combine this with doctrinally asking for male leaders to live life of complete celibacy and put them in positions of great power with weak, innocent kids and teenagers in the fray.....what happened is almost inevitable. Its actually almost a certain percentage (5%) that the movie (Spotlight) explores, regardless of location.

The extreme conservatism will only work among the uneducated in developing countries. I do believe that abstinence and denial of female ordination will be abolished in the next ten years or so, as there simply aren't enough young people joining the priesthood, we will see female priests, openly gay priests and married priests in our lifetimes.
The thing is religion as a whole at least in the west is on a sticky wicket, less people are going of church and those that do pick and chose what to believe.. This may be incendiary to say...but I wonder if religion as we know it will be around in another 100 years? I have my doubts.

Forcible celibacy imposed by an organized and wealthy church and christian missions is the leading cause of sexual abuse. This is distinctly a christian problem and to spin it off to include Hindu sanyasi is an attempt at obfuscating the reality.

Finally US is NOT a secular country in the most liberal understanding of the term secular. They do TOLERATE other religion, but do not respect it. Which is why U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom do not have any Hindus or Buddhist or Sikhs in it.
