Why does Vietnam lag so far behind China, despite similar cultures and political systems?

. .
but he has betrayed the country with insulting on Vietnamese people, where we let them to eat our rice and exist in this world, until they went to USA and Canada.

Well, his close relatives were from Vietnam, but their properties eventually got vandalized.

Personally, he owes Vietnam nothing.

.
Some anti-PRC/CPC Mainland Chinese members were not welcomed by the Chinese community in PDF.

We only care about the political stance, not the personal background.
LOL ... it's the most stupid to anti-world N.o2 economy and anti-money. Does someone can bring China(N.o 2) to world N.o1 economy ? We will support the guy, or just f@ck off do not block Chinese earning more money. Only the idiot hate money and try to break the wealth-producing tool.

And when they go to the US/Canada, they still insult their new US/Canada homeland. Not only the Vietnamese-hua, if you look at the Chinese PDF members here with US/Canadian residency, I think all of them always insult their new “homeland”, where they make a living. It gives me the impression that they dont know how to be grateful and give back the due to those that helped them.

If we judge by this forum alone, I see a Japanese (nihonjin1051) who always show appreciation to his new country of resident (US), Vietnamese member (gambit) who show loyalty to his new homeland or atleast those (frequency, Viet, Daiviet, etc) that defend their new homeland. What about the Chinese members living in the west? all I see is them insulting the west.

So I think it is a waste of time for you to try to explain to them how the Vietnamese-hua should show gratitude to Vietnam who gave them or their forefathers a new homeland. Maybe this concept is not part of their culture?

Not just up to 1980, but pass 1980s and into 1990s, they still tried to apply as refugee.

But I think there was indeed a very small portion of Hua who got persecuted if they were previously involved with the former ROV government or military, so they were genuine refugees. However, the majority of Hua “boat people” were only taking advantage of the UNHCR to migrate to the west. I’ve once read that from a report by HK when they decided to shut down the refugee centers. After HK’s decision and findings, I think the Philippines and other neighboring countries also shut down their refugee process centre.

I agree with this. There’s nothing wrong with them being economic migrants, but what is also worst is that a lot of them do not become grateful and loyal to their new host country. Even when the west gave them a new home and new life, they still only worry about makimg money for themselves while talking trash about the west, the countries they asked to get in. You can see some of these Hua on this forum, talking trash about the west (eventhough they are US/Canadian citizen) and sucking up to the mainland members. They did it to Vietnam, living and taking advantage of their new VN home but talking trash about VN and not being loyal to their new VN homeland. Now most of them are doing it to the west, living and taking advantage of the west yet not being loyal but talking trash about it. So it is just the same.

But not all of them are like that though. A tiny small portion of them assimilated to the west or VN or some still loyal to VN or the west, but they are just in a extreme small minority. But most of the hua economic migrants are just leeching from their new host country and not being loyal to it. I consider that very parasitic.

No one here is claiming him as a Vietnamese either. But most of us already knew there was something “off” about him, different to the other mainland members, even the trolling ones. Now that he has revealed this, the Vietnamese are not surprised.

I disagree though. Sometime a country can turn its back on you. What do you do then? leave.

lol, that right there is the definition of a coward from what you describe.

The Chinese living in the west are quiet and tamed. Rarely, they cause any problems because they are afraid. They always gather in groups among themselves. This is why people make fun of their culture here. It's no surprised. But the Vietnamese are adapting to any situation while the Chinese only stick to themselves which causes many people to judge them and hated them. There are a few handful Chinese that are social and those guys don't really spend time with the FOB Chinese.

Most of the FOB Chinese get make fun of in school and now they seek revenge for that. It's a coward way to approach yourself to overcome their insecurities. They can't help it. But not the Vietnamese. We got pride. People respect us because we don't get intimidated by anyone.

Can you absorb 130 million Japanese?

;)

Yeah, just adopt the Chinese language like the Manchus and Mongols, then we may take you as our 57th ethnic group.

You are right.

Hua chinese "boat people" was crying and insulting Vietnam to get mercy of UNHCR officers in 1975-1980 to get permission to go to USA and Canada...

The same for the Hmong. They came to the United States vis-a-vis refugee status as well.

I know, I have done extensive case study research on this Asian immigrant ethnic group. :)

In fact there are three large Asian minorities who came to the United States starting in the 1970s and culminating in the 1990s through the refugee repatriation act and they include:

  1. "Vietnamese"
  2. Cambodian
  3. Hmong

It depends tho as from my understanding as from my conversation with local government units department in the Philippines several years ago, there is a backdoors entry program for Chinese immigrants to come to the Philippines. There is also a considerable lobbying group in the Philippines that defends Chinese immigrant registration protocol rights and they are the CFCC (Chinese-Filipino Chamber of Commerce), which ironically is a patron of current Filipino President Benigno Cohuangco Aquino III, who himself is a Huaren (he is 1/2 Han , specifically of Hakka ancestry through his Chinese mother, the late Corazon Cohuangco Aquino.

Let me illustrate:

Even now there is a large Chinese settlment program in the Philippines, and their settlement is very evident in Mindanao, in Palawan and throughout the Visayan Islands.

Depends. There is a difference in mannerisms from Taiwanese and Mainlanders. Mainlanders tend to be more tamed, very reticent, their proficiency in English , in general, is working status. They are hard working.

Taiwanese that are in the West and/or the United States are exceptionally fluent in English and speak English with even an Americanized accent, they are exceedingly showy in terms of their affluence (let's be honest here, most Taiwanese-Americans are owners of these Chinese markets and stores / restaurateurs), they are also very hard working. Taiwanese are also more so religious and definitely more Buddhist you will see that they will wear jade jewelry often , and wear luck coins.

Most of the FOB Chinese get make fun of in school and now they seek revenge for that. It's a coward way to approach yourself to overcome their insecurities. They can't help it. But not the Vietnamese. We got pride. People respect us because we don't get intimidated by anyone.

Well to play as Devil's advocate here; in general the bullying in American schools is not something we should gloss over or joke about. I suppose the bullying of Asian immigrants should be condemned ; whether the victim is Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Filipino, Cambodian , Indian or what have you. That's something we as a humans should stand against.

That can explain why Chinese live in the U.S longer than Vietnamese but they have little to none influence on local and state government. Viet and Chinese mentally big gap different as you rarely see the Viet living in host country that show disgrateful behavior to its host.

The typical Chinese in U.S as I see either isolate themselves mentally worshiping their mainland government like terrorrists or Chinese that totally throw away their culture and root by trying to be black and white.

The Vietnamese keep the culture, promote our culture while at same time show appreciation to host country and host culture.

No wonder many high ranking military officers are Vietnamese descend, I see little to none Chinese despite they triple the population Vietnamese in U.S and migrated long before Vietnamese arrived just about 30 years after collapse of the southern government.

Yeah sure. Here's an example of the 'respect' Vietnamese receive in the West.

lol, try to say this in front of @Martian2, the guy is a real US patriot.

To hope a WWIII nuclear Apocalypse between the US and China isn't the real patriotism, but the suicidal stupidity.

The US and China share far more common interests than you think, and stop reading the comments from those inbred Teabaggers. Those guys are losers and will always remain as the bottom feeders of the US society. The US corporations are doing what according to their needs, not listening the 24/7 anti-China tirades from those losers.

@Martian2 is a real smart patriotic Chinese-American as he knows that would serve the US national interests the most.

I've known many Taiwanese friends here in Canada. All are very successful with people and with life. However, not the same with people in mainland China. Very different attitude. I got along with the mainlander by opening them up more and show them the Canadian culture and lifestyle. Now, their lives have improved. These people that I opened up are more successful than the ones that keep everything to themselves.

Bullying is big in America but that is if you allow it to happen to you. Social people tend to have excellent people skill and can handle it very well. Successful people in America are not people with great math and science skills but with great leadership and social skills.

This is why VCP leadership is a failure. Communism is anti-social and It doesn't lead the country in an honorable way. They have been open up only recently due to external pressure. What if there was no pressure? They would continue on with their corrupted minds. These VCP guys are reactive, not proactive. Southern Vietnamese has much better leadership than the North. No offence to some Vietnamese members on PDF. But I'm Vietnamese and I don't mind speaking my mind.

Vietnam is a poor man's China.
Not for long. Its wrong that CCP takes the center spot light for China or rather East Asias development.
The Japanese had need to invest in SK and China after the 70 and 80s for political and economic reasons.
Economically though the shift is being made towards the other Asians nations especially when now looking for returns. So prosperity is a matter of location location and location. Eventually it'll go to Africa as we already see Asian nations especially China using its over capacity in infrastructure to b.
Politically, China is becoming isolated especially with its aggressive approach to diplomacy. Also sanctions from the 90's are still have effects.
Vietnam for all reasons can and will develop faster and sooner than China. I certainly believe this since smaller nations are better at management.
