Why does Bangladesh maintain a military? Just who is it's enemy?

indigenous people have reserved quotas in virtually every sector in this country. They have officers in the military & administrative positions in the government.

Even without quotas, this bright population/ethnicity of ours does well in academics and every sector of public life.

And we never, ever call them Chinkis.

Here is one of our models (Linda), she happens to be Chakma by birth. If this doesn't calm everyone down in here, I've got more....

There are several reason why Chittagong Hill Tract was included in East Pakistan.
First of all, Bengal's premier port Calcutta went to India on the ground of being Hindu majority(Capital city and principal port needed a special consideration than just being which religious group reside in it, because capital represent the entire nation), so it was only logical that smaller Chittagong port will go to East Pakistan(Chittagong district which supported the port is Muslim majority unlike CHT). Otherwise partition can not be presented as fair or equitable. It was a big blow for East Bengal to loose Calcutta, despite being 2/3rd of the undivided province, it was stripped off from owning the capital and largest city,Calcutta as well as it's principle port. Moreover East Bengal was deprived of large swath of Muslim majority territory in western sides(Murshidabad, Malda, half of Dinajpur districts) on the ground of maintaining Indian land connection with North East and navigability of Calcutta port.

On the other hand CHT was the hinterland of Chittagong district and it give some buffer territory to the Chittagong port. Moreover, Chittagong's principal river, Karnaphuli flows through the CHT. So it was absolutely vital for East Bengal to retain CHT. Another important consideration was, CHT was only accessible through Chittagong district. So, communication point of view, it was only logical for CHT to go with East Bengal. So, you can say, Chittagong Hill Tract(CHT) was a small compensation for East Pakistan for it's much, much larger sacrifice in other sectors.

Sardar Patel obviously was a self-serving man who wanted to maximize the gain without regarding the sense of justice or fair play or reciprocity. He completely forgot or did not want to remember, how many favors India got at the expense of East and West Pakistan in the Radcliffe award. He just wanted to take...take and take.

thanked.....good analysis..but last lines were unnecessary...It was Sardar Patel who was for Partition rather than Nehru or Gandhi

Oi mokkel, this is how settler colonialism works. Thanks for proving my point.
It's a free country dumb###.Anyone is free to buy land and settle anywhere they like. We're a relatively small country. So, we can't afford to let 0.5% of our population occupy 10% of our territory.
Besides, many indigenous people also have bought lands in Dhaka and settled here.By your logic, these people are now settler colonials of Dhaka.

Tribals are more like 0.3% of BD population but your point is very valid.

Most will over time leave the CHT for the towns and cities of BD where the economic opportunities are.

Whom are you trying to fool here? When are you going to grant them autonomy as envisaged in the CHT Accord.
I don't even have to try, mate. You're already a fool.
When are you going to grant autonomy to Kashmir and Seven Sisters? They've been struggling for their independence for decades.

Would love to take the family to the Cox's Bazar beach on a car trip from my hometown. Very soon..
Yes, very soon.As soon as you're liberated and annexed by us.
Your enthusiasm to become a part of Greater Bangladesh warms my heart.

Well maybe that's the reason we need the most modern army as we don't have to be offensive to anyone. All we need a much stronger defensive force in order to protect ourselves from any neighbors if they want to invade us in future. I believe we will remain Switzerland of this area always. We don't want battle but we have to be prepared for it
Switzerland enjoys is status because of its financial system, Bangladesh doesn’t offer such benefits... rather Bangladesh will need a force to the likes of British or the Singaporeans, more emphasis on Air Force and navy for offensive war and army for defensive war

Who says that,is it offical GOP policy?
Well let's agree to disagree this defeat would haunt us till we don't move in to defeat Bharat totally and it would haunt BD in sense that,it's only state completly made on ethnic lines, made by a non-muslim state by breaking largest Muslim state only in enmity of Muslims not for love of Bengali Muslims,a state born after romace of traitors with enemies.
Lmao hilarious

I'm saying this from long back... we do get chance to study Chinese weapons in Bangladesh.... so we can have counter measures.... we are strategic allies.... Hasina is the best thing happened to Bangladesh....
Oh the ak47 based rifles are the most y’all get to handle. Rest all are your wet dreams

Yes, Bangladesh being a p!ss poor country is yet to utilise the reserves of Sylhet. Some years back i saw on a YouTube video how the Sylhetis were entertaining their Dhaka overlords(tourists) by lighting fire on their gas fields..:cheesy: That's pretty much everything they are earning from their gas reserves..

Inshallah brother Inshallah.... Coxbazar will be our Goa in east....

Why do you think we will have access to AK 47 type rifles which we already have??? We are there to study J10s (now for commonality purpose BAF will go for either MIG 35 or Rafale), VT5... Kasirga T300 etc ..

Its been 72 years since India and Pakistan are born and 49 years since the emerging of Bangladesh out of Pakistan . Much water has crossed under the bridge but we people of the Sub Continent are still dwelling in the conflicts which were actually created among us by the big Western powers to sell their arms and keep pouring money out of our lands into their own . Now its a time that the leadership of all three countries including India , Pakistan and Bangladesh should start to accept each other and move forward for the sake of the future of over 1.75 billion people . Take our minds out of petty border issues and settle them amicably once and for all and start respecting sovereignty of each other . Lets talk about transfer of trade , tourism, cultural exchange , education, medical , science and technology in a way which can benefit common people of every corner of the region . This world is too small and life is too short to keep living with mind set of fights wars and conflicts . We all need to have mutual respect for each other . I repeat once again ...mutual respect . No one should interfere in matters of any other country and have a policy of live and let live . After all the desctruction of WW2 had taught this lesson to the countries of Europe and Far East and they have chosen a path of forgiving conflicts and focusing on mutual ccoperation and development and as a result life standard of the region of these people increased so much . We should remember one thing - progress only comes with peace and wars just bring backwardness . Lets stop talking of wars and military and focus on well being of our people . If people of Chittagong are happy under Bangladesh so let it be and if people of Sikkim are happy under India and people of Balochistan are happy under Pakistan so be it and so on . Just imagine if we can have peace in this Sub Continent where a person can freely travel from Peshawar all the way to Delhi and then over to Chittagong without fear and problem . This should be our aim , not to win or destroy each other . Wars will benefit only others but never to ourselves .

Practically exceeding @abcxyz0000 level weirdness.

Please provide evidence of India receiving access to Chinese sourced weapons by Bangladesh.

(Also, there is nothing sensitive in the BD military that India gives two sh#ts about)

So we are waiting.......provide your evidence....

We kinda need a thread where its only vishwambhar, abcxyz, el sidd, pakistanforever and austin powers (undertaker) and seven0seven allowed to post to each other....just think of the possibilities!

Bangladesh has been utilizing natural gas reserves in Sylhet for more than 2 decades now. Bibiyana is the largest gas field in BD, operated by Chevron. This field alone supplies around 50% of Bangladesh's gas demand. There are other fields in MoulaviBazaar and Jalalabad.

Blowouts are common in this industry. Not all sites are stable and can be extracted safely. A lot of unpredictable factors at play. I know because I have worked in this industry.

Its better you stick to your usual mix of racism and fantasy, instead of talking about stuff you have no idea about.

Troll fest. Last man standing wins?

I will load up on popcorns for that.
