I am curious as to why Bangladesh didn't win a single medal in Commonwealth Games 2022?

Did they boycott the games? Or just didn't participate because of what what Commonwealth Games represents?

Pakistan won 8 medals! (I think best CWG for Pakistan in some time).

India is clearly head and shoulders ahead of South Asian countries because their population and newfound wealth, but still lags way behind developed nations.

Even Sri Lanka with their economic turmoil managed to bag 4 medals! I'm not even going to mention other small island nations with populations of a few thousands who ended up winning the medals.

Why has the new Asian Tiger not won a single medal in CWG with their best economy in South Asia? Is this a topic that ever gets discussed in Bangladesh?

I please invite Bangladeshi and other South Asian members to discuss.

Who cares as what matters is hard economic power at the end of the day.

BD Taka against dollar is 95

Pakistan Rupee against dollar is 225

That is what counts in terms of a country's comprehensive national strength buddy and not some silly medals!

Don't you think it's a bit off-topic to talk about forex rates when we're discussing Bangladesh's performance at CWG? But, I'll give you that Bangladesh's supposed GDP growth is higher, but national wealth of Pakistan and India is much higher.

Plus the only people who can call them 'silly medals' are people who've actually won some. Otherwise, it just sounds like a 'Grapes are sour' syndrome.

Bo honest, did Bangladeshis send their 30 'athletes' to win medals or just to make up numbers? I'm sure they cared very much about the 'silly medals', but they just couldn't win any.

You linked with BD being the strongest economy in S Asia and I am refuting your logic there.

BD much rather get high gdp growth than some rather frivolous medals at some non-games such as Commonwealth.

PS - No national wealth of Pakistan is no longer much higher than BD as BD has larger markets in home applicances and consumer electronics now. By the middle of this decade BD'shis will be richer than Pakistanis and appreciable richer by 2030.

Sports are not big in Bangladesh aside cricket. You do have football as well.

That being said we do have British Bengalis of Sylheti decent who do well in combat sports in the UK e.g.

Legend Ali Jacko, multiple world champion in kickboxing;

Of course Ruqsana Begum who became a world champion in Muay Thai;

They are not 'non-games' and that's insulting to many athletes who have trained hard for them. Many medal winners also win big or do well in the olympic games.
As for forex and GD the data shows that nations who are more wealthy should do better in sports. So poorer Pakistan did well which is remarkable in itself.
Regardless I put up a post which shows Bengali folk can do well it's just that sports are not big there.

WTF is this now?? Islamic games??
Seriously?
Muslimts are painting everything with religious colour. Then they cry "Islamophobia".

Oh I don't know?

I mean after all, the Federation games will involve nearly 80 indigenous worlds when that event takes place.

I don't think Bangladesh is the strongest economy is S Asia, it was clearly an irony.

Lol again frivolous medals at non-games? Lol CWG are the most important games after Olympics. You can only disregard these medals and games if you've won some! If Australians or Brits called them frivolous and silly medals, it'll carry SOME weight because they've been there done that got the t-shirt.

Also, you call CWG non-games, but Bangladesh's performance at Olympics and Asian games is also there for everyone to see.

FACT: Bangladesh is THE MOST POPULOUS COUNTRY in the world to have NEVER won a single medal at the Olympics.

I'll delete any posts off-topic now. The stupid posts regarding the economy have nothing to do with this.

We have to look at BD's allocation for sports budget and compare it on per capita terms with other South Asian countries. Then also look at how much BD has spent on each of its medal aspirant athletes on PPP per capita term. India has made some improvements on this front in past decade and that is starting to give some results now.

Only some African athletes seem to defy the financial disadvantages and win medals in track and field games.

Anyway @waz corrected me I need to take back at my comments about these games. They are of course very important for the athletes that take part and also important for certain countries as a source of national pride.

I agree.

The thing is @UKBengali wouldn't admit that Bangladesh can do much better in sports.

All of South Asia can do better to be fair, but admitting is the first step and he started talking about forex rates and so on.
