Beijing went to "extreme lengths to silence discussion about the battle" and in particular, any "discussion about the true number Chinese casualties'', the Australian daily reported. China has been tight-lipped about the Galwan casualties on its side, like all other things. The Australian report states that China almost entirely left out mentioning the clashes at the time of the skirmish. Other than that, on February 20, the Chinese government also released a statement saying that 38-year-old journalist Qiu Moumou was fired from his job at the Chinese newspaper the Economic Observer for having “questioned the number of PLA (People’s Liberation Army) casualties in Galwan”.Other reports during the period had claimed that the journalist was arrested.

“A division of Xinjiang Miltary Region organized officers and soldiers to go to the Shiquane Martyr Cemetery to lay flowers to to the revolutionary martyrs, organize party members to take an oath and sweep the tombs for heroes”.

After the initial deadly clash it appears both sides called for reinforcements.

It appears to be during the subsequent fighting that many of the 20 Indian soldiers were either killed, or wounded and later died of their injuries or hypothermia.

Multiple reports have stated that numerous soldiers from both sides fell to their deaths over steep cliff edges.
