Why are guns so outrageously expensive in Pakistan?

Norinco's recently arrived, Semi auto CQ-A 5.56 is selling for up to RS: 400,000 throughout Pakistan which is almost US $4000. Exact same weapon costs $700 in Canada.

This NORINCO M-4 Rip off is a $1000 more expensive than a brand new FN-SCAR H in the US Civilian market. Glocks, Sigs, FNs, H&K handguns cost you two arms and your balls !

My question is, why are they so expensive in Pakistan? - Is it the taxes or dealers are making the most out of a hard to get rifle base?

i think it is ploy to keep guns out of reach from most people, but i maybe wrong

agreed ... but govt might want to cap the arms buyer .. that means making it less affordable

I am not sure about this as i don't think govt makes much money out of selling expensive firearms to us via deals (taxes). There is an embargo on Pakistan for small arms from some EU countries which contributes. Full auto firearms are already banned. This Non Prohibited Bore semi auto rifles too are now extremely expensive.

Export restrictions on arms from most western countries to Pakistan, high corruption (bribes) in obtaining import licences, short supply vs high demand and to top it all very high margins by dealers.

In other words, an ultimate screw up, Pakistani style!

12 bore is not a weapon, its a toy. You can get a 12 gauge in Pakistan in return for a sack of peanuts.

Which makes me angry. I want to own an AR frame, now imagine how much a real M-4 would cost.

In 98 when I was out in the market to buy my first ever handgun, I passed a Glock 19 for 85k, thinking what the heck, now that same thing (two or three gens newer) sells for 400k, what the ****!

Should have made a strategic investment :sarcastic:
