Which territory in specific?

We will when its done in a coordinated manner and the other side does the same thing. Indians know the result of a free vote, they also know that colonialism can't keep people oppressed forever, things change. Russian empire then USSR had colonised the Central Asia for two centuries only for the USSR to disintegrate mainly due to its own control freak decisions. You can try and keep Kashmir oppressed in a belief that your occupation will be an enduring one - maybe - but it still won't affect the end result.
why you keep talking big and do nothing .... if you wanna do it you would have done in 1947 under UN itself...... all big talk are hollow nothing else. ...... nothing but all is this delusion claims which you leave PAK a least important country in economics...

It is India you asked for vote and no PAK, and PAK afraid of it , thats why it didn't wanted for it. PAK knows the reality thats why he didn't wanted for it and created a myth ..

Sorry sir...we are not leaving Kashmir... Kashmir holds both strategic and religious importance and top of them all. ." Water"

Exactly.

You are admitting that India's reluctance to the plebiscite has nothing to do with Pakistan, nothing to do with demographics or history, but is purely for its own reasons.

My dear friend, as just a spectator here on PDF, i learned all about Kashmir, So thanks to you guys on PDF.

On a serious note, I think point no. 2 is most important.
What do you think?
Ya point no 2 takes plebiscite out of the equation ..

Your points are relevant to the 1948 Resolution, but not to the fundamental question of self-determination.

Never mind what Pakistan does, the question is: is India confident enough to allow Indian held Kashmir to decide its own fate?

Can India act like mature democracies in Canada and UK, or is Indian "democracy" just a sham?

Nevermind what India does, will Pakistan be confident to allow the Kashirmiris in your part to decide it own fate?

Plebiscite or no plebiscite, Kashmir will be free.

why do pakistanis always hide behind empty words? can you explain how kashmir will be 'free'.

if a referendum is held to be in india on kashmir...i am sure 99.999% votes would be favorable to india.

Does the Pak Army really want to solve the Kashmir 'dispute'? Not by a long shot.

Because if Kashmir is solved, then what would be the use of a such a huge army backed by a nuke arsenal? Their preeminence in Pak society would wither away and the PA would become non-entities!

Kashmir is the PAs life support system. The raison d'etre for their very existence.

So, no. The PA will keep Kashmir on the boil till the cows come home - which means never. All this BS from Pakistan they want the Kashmir issue resolved is pure unadulterated rubbish.

.
if Pakistan so much want kashmir to be free then why it doesn't free the Azad Kashmir ... make it free nation.. let it decide its fate.. if pakistaniis are so.humble and pious in their doing then why worry of India.. free the Azad Kashmir people , withdraw ur ppl who changed the demography in the are... and make Azad Kashmir a free nation...ask back for the land u devoted to china.... then come and talk abt j&k ...

Agree. Even if the civilian governments are at the brink of solving it, Pak army will pull up stunts like Kargil. And even if it gets Kashmir, just to be relevant it will demand parts of Indian Punjab.

The Kashmir issue has three proponents, India, Pakistan, and the people of Kashmir. Indian claim to Kashmir is based largely on the instrument of accession signed by Maharaja Hari Singh which is entirely legally valid. The Pakistani claim is based on the Muslim majority in the area which is logical. And the people of Kashmir want a separate state due to decades of neglect. Estimations indicate 65-70% people opting for independence in case a plebiscite or referendum is ever held.

But in reality any such referendum is a pipe dream by Kashmir's inhabitants. Kashmir has tremendous strategic value for the defence of both countries. Plus any loss of territory, even ceding an inch would result in immense loss of face and would be tantamount to political suicide for both the regimes. Added to that is zero support from the international community as a separate Kashmir represents a grave threat to south Asian stability.

India seems content with the current status quo, and has made no overture towards the part held by Pakistan. The reason for this is that Indian held area is much more valuable in wealth of resources than the parts under Pakistani or Chinese control. Added to that the completely Muslim population of the Pakistani part as well as the difficulty in access from the Indian side, results in total lack of interest by India in Pakistan's part of Kashmir. Hence for India Kashmir seems to be a settled issue.

On the other hand, since Pakistan got a raw deal in the division of Kashmir, it has engaged in unsuccessful wars and extremism to gain ground in the Indian part. And keeps on raking up the plebiscite issue. Knowing fully well that were a referendum ever held, Kashmir's inhabitants would in a majority choose independence from both countries. And like India, Pakistan would be extremely loathe to lose an inch of it's currently held territory. Hence the plebiscite call by Pakistan is a hollow one, mostly political grandstanding, while simultaneously executing actions like changing the demographics which ensure a plebiscite can never be held.

No one wants a separate and independent Kashmir, not India nor Pakistan, nor the international community, apart from the very people of Kashmir. At best the people in Indian part of Kashmir can hope to eventually improve their living standards due to vast amount of aid by the government of India to the state, much greater than is provided by their Pakistani counterparts.

Apart from that, even though I feel sorry for the populace of Kashmir, any dream of independence would remain just that, only a dream in the foreseeable future, owing to the harsh ground reality and real world scenarios opposing that..

.
LOL.

Plebiscite is not possible because the Indian constitution does not allow for it  .......... I thought everybody knew that. :P

Scotland referendum was not held in UK, only Scotland. Same foe Quebec.

Topic is about India.

no talk of plebiscite till all Kashmir pundits are returned!!(cuz we only want plebiscite in our favor..if not, no body give a crap about plebiscite)

Right.
So "democracy" only if/when the demographics have been "adjusted".
