What's new

Who's taking GMAT this year?

Wait !! are you a girl??:cheesy:

:whistle:How ye doin?

:argh:or was it your mother?

I thought this was more funny:tongue:

Hey you are not a boy? are you? why is your name Ruby then?
err..rubyjackass ...is it some kind of revenge to your girlfriend??She dumped you for a son of a gun and now you're here goin around telling everyone that she is a jackass??
that was me ofcourse. My Mom is still young though but rightnow I'm referring to my very self
alright everyone..back to the subject..thats GMAT ofcourse...ok tell me is CAT only for USA?

Look at my age
pehle Girlfriend ka thikana nahi... You are talking about all the stages of love?
Please...
Sometimes I am afraid I may die bachelor.
And so I lived (Is there no smiley with booze?:undecided:).

CAT is for entry into IIMs(Indian Institute of Manaegment). Much more competition for this exam(I am surprised you didn't know about it). 1500 get selected from 2.5lacs:undecided::undecided:. You should get used to this kind of competition in India if you wanna live. But anyway it has less fee payable and more scholarship opportunities for countries like ours.

Btw did you get
the 'How ye doin?'
Inspired by Joey from 'The Friends'.

. . .
is it (GMAT) a difficult task..how much you need to score inorder to get into a good university? anybody?

difficult but interesting.maximum 700 to get into a renowned university.very tough competition.
@rubyjackass..we have LMAT here for LUMS ..competitor of IIMS.I find the analtyical writing part the most difficult one.sometimes you get a topic out of the wierdest thing in the world...very unpredictable.do you suggest something?

All the exams I am going to take are going to be objective. No writing stuff. But posting on defence.pk forums really helped me writing:agree:. I haven't written(including typing) anything creative for years before joining this forum. So I suggest you join an Indian forum and start clrifying things about Pakistan to them:lol: Believe me... if you see something or other objectionable and you will keep writing.

Previously I used to not even put pen on paper much. I remember the only times in class were for attendance(worse sometimes I get this proxy for this too;)) and exams.

I should be focussing on these things though.
Many bschools(all b schools in India worth trying for) have interviews(IIMs have group discussions to shortlist for interview:argh:). So the onus is on talking better. Also the paper pattern will not be specified before. time management is very important in CAT. There used to be 180 questiosnto be solved in 2 hours. Now a days questions are getting longer and fewer. Especially annoying are questions which come with a page long write-up or story and you have to infer something from it.
I fantasize about ISB, but comeon everyone knows they take only uncles and aunties.(avg experience of inbound students : 2 years)

Time management is no doubt very important.I don't see problem with writing and typing except the knowledge and grasp on a particular subject.Such as if I get politics there. The outcome is going to be zero.Because I 'm not into politics or any other "family" of politics(geo n all) As a matter of fact I hate it:argh: and the irony is it carries a major weightage:( and if I end up being a loser on that part...Its gonna be hell of a trouble. However sometimes the "phrase" is very interesting to elaborate and you get lucky.I want to think positive about it but it's GMAT.Anything can happen.

700 is a very hight score but is demanded for the really top schools

I didn't get 700 but i did do well (650) and i would say that I picked up about 70 of those points thanks to the course i took at mastergmat.com
They helped me learn how to think the way the test wants you to think and cut out the easy mistakes that cost you cheap points

I was very pleased with them

Hello everyone!

anyone taking GMAT this year or have taken before , please post your suggestions and opinions here.I would really like to know what's your guide?
I'm currently studying Barrons.I couldn't score well last year because I didn't plan nor prepared as it was immediately after my graduation..The score was horribly poor ..400..:( .I wanna give it a serious shot this time.I have taken almost a year off now.First prioirity is LUMS..second's LSE....and a big NO to PU....so what do you guys suggest?

Well i am preparing but i don't plan any date for it.... If you want to grab a hold on GMAT for LMAT or LSE i recommend you to properly go through Manhattan series for GMAT preparation..i prepared for LMAT from this series and scored 640 on LMAT but main issue with me is that i have no job experience. Moreover Manhattan is not still available in Pakistan so you must buy it from Canada or England. Barrons is a Crap, through it in basket...it is only useful if you want to go for LGAT (LUMS MS programs). For practice of GMAT or LMAT i recommend GMAT official Guide 10th 11th and 12th edition, easily available in Pakistan, and also download Kaplan online tests from ********. But don't go for any academy, thats only a source of time wasting...

I wrote my GMAT this March and scored 740. The prep books I followed for verbal section are Manhattan GMAT Sentence correction, Powerscore Critical reasoning bible and OG 12th edition. If you are an engineer or a science grad, Math section doesn’t need much preparation

The exam is not that tough but systematic preparation is a must. As the test is of 4 hours duration, mock exams are a must for increasing your stamina. Systematic preparation should fetch you above 700

In India, at least, the Manhattan series books are available in prominent books stores.

Anyway…why don’t you use Amazon or Barnes & nobles for getting those books to Pakistan?

well its not a problem for me to get these types of books...i am preparing GMAT from Manhattan...i often used to go to England so not a problem for me atleast....in Pakistan mostly people prefer Kaplan, Princton review and GMAT official Guides. I don't know whether Manhattan is availiable in Islamabad or Karachi, there are many books stores, may be they have Manhattan series...bt people in Pakistan mostly demand Princeton review and Private Acedemy Material. But Full length tests of Manhattan are availiable in Lahore.
