Skilled Immigrants - QuickTake

Facebook, Google, Intel and Cisco Systems are among the companies lobbying Congress to increase the number of technology workers, who enter the U.S. on H-1B visas. In fiscal 2014, it took just six days for the federal government to reach the 85,000 allotted petitions for H-1B visas for the year.

The U.S. Senate immigration reform bill passed in 2013 initially would raise the annual H-1B visa limit to 135,000 from 85,000; it could increase in later years to 180,000.

What a disastrous stat for india.

All of their technical staff is leaving the country...

Countries like Malaysia, Turkey, and even Pakistan have "brain gain" where people leave the country..get trained in Western World...and then go back to give to their nation.

good move. more indians in US will allow China to catch up faster than anticipated.

It's very difficult for you guys to understand why it's good for India.

What do you mean by "you guys"? lol

Entire world will agree that brain-drain is bad for a country.

Get a grip, fool.

Yes, I am. Now, working in Virginia(Fairfax).

Oh ok.

I live in California. Alot of South Indians here too. Specially the bay area.

I am not sure if someone is observing the latest trend...But due to increase in the salary of the Indian job market and also quality of living in major metro areas of India, you do not find that kind of craze among people to come to USA now. Of course there are section of people who are average taleneted and they always try to come US because for them, it is easier to get a job in US than India for obvious reason....But in general, many talented people from good institute are not that much of craze to come US as it was 10 years back....I was recruiting for a mid level position in my team for CA and its almost a year where we are not getting a good resource for a direct hire role...Even i tried with a option of bringing H1B this year from India too, but again, the quality of people who are available to come to this role is not as per the expectation of my HR manager so as to sponsor H1 b visa from India.....

At-least 20%of these guys goes back after getting overseas experience and you know how many people started companies back there in India?

At-least another 5% people leave the jobs here in USA itself and move on to different businesses which it will create more supporting jobs back in India.

We have to have flow, then only the fresh college outs will get jobs in India.

.
Totally opposite lol.

Btw, are you South indian? Where do u live in USA? (Like state, city etc?)

Just the remittance from these expatriates for past one decade would be half a trillion dollars. About 10 million people emigrate to other countries every year which is less than 1 percent of our population. Even the educated leave the country for better opportunities to developed countries but its impact is difficult to access in a vast country like in India.

I'm really puzzled at how India alone takes such large percentage of H1 visas if this program has country by country quota.

Meanwhile in Pak...

It seems high net work individuals can escape from Pak and never look back  So much for "brain gain" in Pak.

The companies would like H1B b'c they can pay cheap salaries as the employee's visa depends on their job title.
