A while back, a list of names of people in different companies around the UAE were released showing their fake degrees. I was angry and happy at the same time. Good riddance.

True. From a personal point of view, I have always preferred to work hard rather than to take short cuts.

Okay that can be true but in retrospect I don't think people who go for such degrees want to go abroad for work. You can get a degree, get some financial backing and can easily get a visa to work anywhere in the world. Most of these will use the visa to go to a country abroad and then ghost the system or claim asylum.

I have a special hatred for people like these, it's because of their exploitation of the system that all asylum seekers are frowned upon in the UK with the media lighting the fire in its typical manner.

If say you get a degree or a diploma as an engineer you can probably find a job with a visa too, what happens on your first day of work when you are asked to solve a problem and your lies are laid bare.

There wasn't any checks on educational institutions as part of home office applications a decade ago but since then UK has established UKNARIC that qualifies every degree from around the world to UK equivalent so employers can avoid frauds. Whilst hiring now, it is essential that the candidates supply us their UKNARIC certification.

I am not sure how fail proof this system is but anything helps that keeps such frauds away.

It is very fail proof and more and more nations are adopting similar systems. It is becoming increasingly difficult to do validate fake degrees.

Never understood those who cheat in exams. When I was a student over 20 years ago, I worked extremely hard to do the best I could. I wanted to be the best I could GENUINELY be and celebrate my genuine successes if they were forthcoming. Often I did not do as well as I wanted yet I managed to gain strong passes at GCSE, A-Level and managed to get a BSc (Hons) and an MSc from two fairly good London Universities. That too despite having gone to the worst secondary school in London at the time. Where 99% of the pupils were either White or Black or a combination of the two. I was the only Brown person in the WHOLE school (1988-1993). Not ONCE did I even think about cheating in that 11 year period (1993 -2004).

Too easy to tell in technical field if someone has fake degree or cheated to get their degree. But in other fields maybe this is not so simple and clever people can still avoid this. Anyway important is technical field everything else is bullshit.

I think this whistleblower states that a large portion of there clients were Indians already working for multi-national or gulf firms but were looking for additional degrees to get promoted or paid more. Many were already managers. This type of fraud will be more difficult to detect because the cheat may already have one legitimate degree and experience in the firm....hence have some technical understanding of what their doing.

I think this whistleblower states that a large portion of there clients were Indians already working for multi-national or gulf firms but were looking for additional degrees to get promoted or paid more. Many were already managers. This type of fraud will be more difficult to detect because the cheat may already have one legitimate degree and experience in the firm....hence have some technical understanding of what their doing.

But two phone calls each lasting no more than 10 mins followed by a few E-Mails by the HR department could EASILY verify the authenticity of ANY qualification. Especially in Dubai and the West where the HR departments tend to be more thorough and professional than in the developing world.
