India was united under a single entity once in "British" sources. It was united under Emperor Ashoka.

@KediKesenFare @Śakra
I has some hints when I started to make my list :

1) Most vibrate history
2) How much cultural heritage exist under borders of any country ( for example, Hindu civilization belongs mainly to India becouse it is India today, Diocletian palace belongs to Croatia, Hagia Sophia belongs to Turkey...)
3) I favourized countries with more " important events", that's why I put France instead of USA, or Russia instead Japan, French or October revolutions easily beat USA or Japan history at any moment becouse these revolution changes history forever.
Japan dont have " world important events". It was just a regional power, forever.

No country in modern time can say that they are the true heirs of past civilizations.. They are just 'sitting' in those places.

Today Japanese/Chinese have all right in the world to be proud of their ancestors achievements.

You forgot the Persian / Iran ?

My biggest fault along Isreal.
Biggest " - " to my list.

Europe was united under Hitler... does that mean Europe was a country?

At most, India was "united" for about 1% of it's history before 1947

Why Pakistanis posters suddenly gets offended whenever any sane poster talk about history of ancient India??
:hitwall:

Pakistanis must be proud that they were part of this great country called Bharat in ancient time.

Roman Empire,Byzantine Empire/Persian Empires,Ottoman Empire,British Empire,in that order.

I wonder what country should be considered the heir of the Mesopotamian civilization? After all, this is the cradle of of civilization, even more ancient than India, China or Egypt.

every corner of earth having civilization and rich history . why select one ?

best comment here...so true

I like you and respect you. But this question is nonsense. Take the Germans as a prime example. Described by the Romans as barbarian, they are today one of the most developed and one of the most richest countries on this planet - probably even one of the most wealthy nations in the history of mankind.

The past is important because it explains your current state. But it is your reality which determines your future. I hope you understand my point.

The Roman called every none Roman speaking a other language Barbarian.... during their time this was no negative word... it just descripe that the cant understand their language... the word orginaly comes from greek... the bad taste off underdevlopt uncivilist brutal people was added later

Just try to response objectively, my friends.

Explanation of my choices :

I missed some countries like Japan, but Japan come to relevance only after 1905.
or Arab/ME countries, but I really cannot expeled Turkey and add some other muslim country, becouse any other muslim country cant stand a chance against Turkish history + Pax Ottomana brings peace for many centuries in such troubled area like ME.

USA dont qualify at any aspect, no offense.

Too bad that Mongolia, Spain or Portugal didnt fill some places on my list. But only 10 allowed.

Dont start schauvinist talks.
Debate and enjoy!

I study history, when I don't do mathematics.

civilization as we know it, started in the area between North Iraq and Turkey.
That is where we see earliest signs of hunter gatherers settling down.

After that period, Iraq saw huge upheaval in terms of civilization and human achievement.

The Persian history is most respectable, and amazingly so mature when compared to others, and only second to maybe the Greek Civilization.

Have to agree with that. Much respect to the pre Islamic history.

Actually Europe wasn't united under Hitler. I can only speak for India and Indians. The Mauryan Empire ruled for 200 yrs. That's a big deal to Indians. It shows that no matter what anyone states, we were all united at one time. And today, here we are again.
