I don't know about USA but in Pakistan it is, you can ask anyone about if they offer namaz, it is pretty normal in Pakistan and Pakistanis to ask this question from one another.

The social image is that anyone offering salah 5 times in mosque is considered a proper muslim. " 5 waqt ka namazi " term is used to describe that person. Rest is secondary.
