When Our Brave Lashkars Were Knocking at the Gates of Srinagar and Beyond

.
Pakistan ought to focus on taking the entire length of Siachen territory as priority.
Siachen can only be taken permanently if we control the Srinagar Leh highway. If we had consolidated our gains in Dras-Kargil-Batalik-Mushkow region in 1999, Siachen would have fallen easily. The Turning point of the conflict in 1999 was the Indian capture of the Tiger Hill. They had the advantage of the Airforce,Bofor guns and manpower. Our planners did not factor in the massive Indian response. Our men were fighting with scarce food and ammunition.

Pakistan's strategic leadership has always been woefully inadequate. In 1948 when the tribal lashkars made it to outskirts of Srinagar can you imagine if few regular army companies of 100 men led by captains were attached to the lashkars?

In 1965 can you imagine if Lahore front had been beefed up before launch of the attack on Kashmir thus mitigating the Indian counter-attack that followed? Or in 1999 extra re-inforcements and beefed up logistics had been factored in?

All these are failures at strategic planning level.

Also invest in proper border security not some dude on motorcycle with chappal and a AK-47
The very nature of modern state is EXCLUSION. That is they tag some as citizens [included] and rest of the world - excluded. This begins by drawing a line on the land, fencing it, guarding it and regulating movement. In Pakistan the state only learn't this lesson now.

All the sacrifices by our brave men lay waste because of incompetency/cowardice of the top brass as always.
Sad but true.

What do you expect from a country that claims to be a "Islamic Republic" and its people thinking borders dont exist in the Islamic world and rudderless identity bounded to we wuz Arabs we wuz Turks we wuz Persians

Not possible. The Indians hold the high ground. While Gen Zia was dreaming of taking on the Soviet armies in Afganistan and laying the ground for a caliphate in Pakistan he failed to detect the sly Indians slip into the Siachen, grab the high ground. By the time Pak reacted the game was over. Stalemate 2020. India did a Kargil on Pakistan in 1983, sixteen years before Pakistan dreamed the Kargil. Only Pakistan messed up.

I dont understand the same people that shrill for Zia and us being involved with the American adventures against the Russian bear when we freaking led the Indians to the Siachen man we lack any sense of strategic depth at all

Hi,

Our planners did not count for the cowardice of Nawaz Sharif---.

Hi,

Zia was informed that the Indians were on a buying spree for extreme cold weather equipment---.

And the real porblem with pakistani Generals is---that they are in majority " YESSIR "---cannot speak their mind or do not have a mind to speak of---.

If Zia did not catch onto it---then what happened to the other generals---were they sleeping---.
