What's new

What will become of the planes that JF-17 is replacing?

.
Nope. wrong option. Do you really want rogue elements doing crazy things.
Don't know..for example Impalas from SAAF are at NTPS for test pilot and flight test engineer training courses....nothing wrong with that...

.
Will they be sold for scrap metal? Will they be stored permanently in storage? Will the F-7's be broken down for spare parts for the F7-PG? Can we sell them to some African nation at a flyaway cost?
this will happen to best ones

F-7PG should be refurbished on side since there is no urgency to fly them since JF17 arrived

Really nothing wrong with Craft it is Same size as F16
Just need a minor Radar/Missile upgrade

The reason for the recent accident rise should be investigated if PAF has reduced the general Service of craft due to arrival of JF17 Program i.e More Engineers are focused on JF17 Program etc

Sudden Spike in Accident point to perhaps change in Maintenence cycle

From Wikipedia
  • On 24 September 2016, Pakistan Air Force's flight lieutenant Omer Shahzad died when the F-7PG he was flying encountered a technical fault and crashed in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency.
  • On 25 May 2017, a Pakistan Air Force F-7PG crashed near Mianwali while on a routine operational training mission. No loss of life occurred as the pilot of the aircraft ejected safely.
  • On 9 August 2017, a Pakistan Air Force F-7PG on a routine operational training mission crashed near Mianwali, killing the pilot.
  • On 17 August 2017, a Pakistani Air Force F-7PG on a routine operational training mission crashed near Sargodah.
It seems the accidents happened on "Training Environment" perhaps a Trainee is not yet ready to fly a fighter Jet

These accidents could happen to anyone during Training missions

Was not explained if it was Pilot Error , System Malfunction , Engine error etc

.
I think we r confusing f-7mp to f-7pg

These are 2 different planes

And yes f-7pg have been involved in some accidents recently nevertheless it is a capable fighter and could easily soldier on for 7+ more years as close air support and point defence

MLU is the key word here

  • Converting it from just Short range missile to Long/Short missile platform, would add some depth (3 SD-10 , 2 Short Range)

Considering the platform was added to Pakistan Airforce in 2000's so it would make sense to do a minor MLU

Obivously from Physical Characteristics , it appears similar to other crafts

The cost would be trivial to integrate a New Missile for F-7PG or do a MLU

Impalas are a different class of aircraft. Mig21 different.

even PG had design life of 2000 hours with suspected expansion to 4000..
this would mean a life of 20-25 years.
these were inducted in 2002, so they would be on their last legs by 2022 and would sure need replacement by 2025
now even the MP that were delivered in late 1990 when no.20 Squadron was re-equipped with F-7MP
about 10-12 years earlier than PGs

unless of course PAC open them up and do a full rebuild as we do with our mirages..but is it worth that investment..probably not..mirages ROSE are for they have specific role and pretty much unused spares that we got

so my guess is that PGs will go earlier than mirage ROSE

eh?????

We should just send them to China for MLU simpler in case we do not spend man power for MLU'ing them up locally

The present case F-7PG, do have Short Air-Air engagement missiles, so provided they manage to get close to enemy craft there is a decent chance to engage and be successful

The F-7PG + JF17 Thunder in tandem do mean options in air

MLU would cost marginal 2-3 Million per craft

Thunder with 4 SD-10 , 2 Short Range
F7-PG with 3 SD-10 , 2 short Range (Or 2 SD10 , 2 Short Missiles 1 Drop Tank)

Look like a reasonable benefit

but how can F-7PG guide 100+ Km SD-10 with its 55 km range radaro_O

.
Those are actually , challenges we can work with China to resolve , size of radars are and shapes are always changing

  • Not making whole plane just enhancing it / refreshing it
