There are some plans (or maybe fever dreams of few) in post-Brexit UK about making commonwealth of nations stronger economically, better relations between each others, maybe even military relations and therefore making them stronger together in global arena.

How do people whole live on those countries outside UK see that kinda suggestions... do you think it’s feasible or just old Brits dreaming about past glory?

Just a last effort to regain past glory. Every common wealth has own problems and interests. Just like they had hundreds of years ago. UK just cannot offer anything. Most of the commonwealth will be directly engaged with china rather that UK.

There's too many differing views for it to be any collective good. Even if we presume this to be possible, what could the UK offer that each individual nation can't get on its own.

That's what I was wondering because apparently "Britain at the commonwealth helm" attitudes are gaining ground in Britains right-wing/conservative circles (no surprise there), so I thought what people who live outside UK but in commonwealth countries think about it.

Do you see anything positive what could from that kinda thing?

I actually had to google what that is. Turned out 2 mortal enemies Pakistan and India are members. LOL

Defence
So what military cooperation are we talking about between member states? What can possibly be there incase of Pak/Ind? Or are we talking about buying something from UK? In that case, I highly it that they are willing to offer us some goodies. If they do, India will have a problem. If they give to India then we'll have a problem.

Trade
Both Pak/Ind are at their lowest in terms of their bilateral trade. Or are we talking about our trade with UK? If so, what incentives can they offer us which they haven't already?

Tourism
Pak/Ind bilateral tourism is at its lowest like always and it ain't gonna change anytime soon. As for Brits touring us, those who wants to visit, they do either way(in very very small numbers compared to Brit tourists in other European countries lets say). Those of us who wants to visit UK, we do, with visa, which takes a lot of time to obtain and I highly doubt they will be giving us visa on arrival or visa free access.

Commonwealth is the symbol of British Occupation at its prime days. It has nothing to offer to each other, except we go to Common Wealth Games at regular intervals.

Noi it is not a dream. UK already does 50% of the trade with non EU countries. Indeed it exports more to non EU. Part of that includes commonwealth and it is vital that realtions are improved. The fact is the foci of global trade is shifting east. Many of those emerging markets will overtake Europe over the next decade.

So why chain yourself to a continent when the world is your oyster?

You would have a good cricket team....but no one to play against.

What does UK exporté apart from jam ?
What grows there on that grim grey island ?

.
The only benefit it could possibly offer is ease of market access to the UK. Otherwise it doesn't count for anything.

Reminds me of the fascinating time in 1948 during the first Kashmir War. Both India and Pak were dominions in the Commonwealth, not Republics - so technically King George was at war with himself.

Royal Pakistan Airforce was fighting Royal Indian Airforce.

I don't get what 'making commonwealth stronger' means in this context.

If we are talking about economic cooperation. Britain will definitely sign trade deals with non-EU individual countries. It hardly matters whether they were commonwealth or not. How is this different from any country in the world looking to make trade deals with other countries in the world?

If you mean that commonwealth countries would form a trade bloc or increase defence relations with each other? I doubt it. Large economies like India are looking to leverage their market size to make individual favourable trade deals instead of compromising their weight by joining a trade bloc. The same logic applies to defence relations.

Either way, I don't see the relevance of Britain talking about making commonwealth stronger. There is nothing that individual countries cannot do or are not already doing individually that they would be able to do better / easier within the commonwealth framework.
