What is your opinion about Iran's military?

I dunno on paper it seems alright. Iranians always seems to be testing and upgrading and designing news weapons so it's always improving.

they proved their merit in the Iran/Iraq war.
probably the third or fourth strongest military in the region

Army is pretty powerful..well trained.

Navy and the Air Force needs major upgrades and reforms...ASAP.

Besides, it has kickas.s rocket artillery force.

The Defense Industry is growing and does not bad at all. But it lacks strong base infrastructures.

Your air force is outdated but you have done well for your navy with your limited resourced. Idk much about your land capabilities but I do believe you have one of the best urban fighting trained forces on the planet in the revolutionary guard based on the training they have given to Hezbollah.

Oh yeah your missile forces are top notch in the region perhaps behind Israel and at par with Pakistan's missile forces. Idk if Turkey has its own missile program if they do you can probably throw them in the mix, the Saudis do have some nice missiles they purchased from China recently.

Actually they export weaponry, since they have huge quantities of them made locally, and they even donate some like the coming gift to arm the Lebanese army!
What they "lack" is the possibility to buy the latest technologies from the west for efficiency, but they compensate it with efficacy of their own weapon systems and try to match the western weapon systems efficiency by upgradings.

Well I respect Iran and its people a lot. They have the potential to live and fight for their cause. I know because of sanctions they are not at par with other Nations when it comes to defend Nation then a Iranian is a bomb in himself/herself. I agree with porris above, that Iranian soldiers are brave and tough. I am impressed with Iran's development of an extensive domestic arms industry and the ingenuity in which they have kept weapons like the F-14 flying long after I would have though possible. Iran is a huge country with large numbers of men under arms and would be a tough country to conquer and keep control of, so I would give her good marks as a defensive force. On the other hand, I doubt any country, including Israel, America or Saudi Arabia, would ever actually invade Iran, even if a conflict arose between any of those nations and Iran. I don't think Iran would fair well, weapon to weapon, tank to tank, fighter aircraft to fighter, against any of those three countries, (And those specific countries would be most likely to have an armed conflict with Iran, in my opinion.). I do think that if the conflict were between Iran and her old enemy, Iraq, Iran would win a second war with Iraq, fairly quickly. Iraq's armed forces have their hands full right now and seem incapable of policing their own country, let alone, defeating a powerful neighbour.

You said you were young and I take it you are thinking about a military career? I would encourage you to explore that. Iran is a great country with a great history and one should always be patriotic about one's homeland and military service is the most honourable way to demonstrate that devotion. Good luck!
