What's new

What is going on here? Is Google a BJP mouthpiece all of a sudden? Take a look at this.

We all know that western media are inclined towards a western and pro-Israel/India bias to some degree. Many western CEOs are of Jewish or Indian heritage. That's fair and all. However, I did not expect this. Take a look yourself, this is from the mobile version of Google search under the news subheading.

You can see the bold subtitles that state, "India slams Bilawal Bhutto's remarks against PM Modi". Note that these subtitles are written by Google itself; the employees. These aren't written under the news article. So, Google here is showing a bias towards the Pakistani narrative and in favor of the Indian narrative.

A similar pro-BJP subheading can be found here, under a different search:

India1.jpg

If you look at other subheadings, you will never find them to be pro-Pakistan. Examples:

India6.jpg

India5.jpg

India4.jpg

As you can notice, none of those subheadings were directly biased as the first two. Even in regard to other conflicts, such as Israel-Palestine or Turkey-Sweden, the subheadings are not as blatantly biased as the initial two examples. As seen here:

number of searches, algorithms, etc. like, google algorithms know which topic is popular where and Indian pop is huge, so it happens. Then, there are some biases by the parent company. Like FB knew that it is being used as a propaganda tool in the Mayanmar massacre, but still they let it go and stopped very late.

We are spending energy and resources elsewhere and not on building and propagating our narrative. This is not our priority.

Lets discuss if Punjab assembly will dissolve or not.

There is no magic or mystery; Google is a giant 'computer'. Whatever headlines can elicit most hits end up on the top. Google (i.e. the computer system) carefully keeps a count of how many visitors clicked a link and promotes those. So, the links you cited were read more often than the links you do not see. With millions of news items, the only way google can process them is by algorithms. And the greatest algorithm is the one that brings most readers and hence most dollars.

The search algorithm will boost links that garner a lot of traffic and make readers spend time on their website (amongst other factors). Since India has a huge population this is natural. Our media outlets have to become more savy in ways to counter this. Investing in SEO is a must today if you want to compete.

Search 'Srivastava group propaganda'. It's not a conspiracy theory.

Indians have enough manpower on the web to game the system. The BBC reported the massive Indian disinformation campaign.

I did a search about 6 months ago on India's extreme poverty numbers - then I did a search again recently - all the negative results have disappeared. They are employing SEO on a mass scale.

How does SEO work with google generated news? It is created automatically by Google's computers by crawling over thousands of news websites.

If you want to dig deep into how Google news works, see https://rucore.libraries.rutgers.edu/rutgers-lib/62647/PDF/1/play/

Regarding SEO, I'm talking about the poverty reports - they were on page 1 search results 6 months ago - now they are nowhere to be seen.

Regarding Google news, the BBC story explains that Indian company's set up 265 news sites - each feeding off the other and pushing them up the agenda. I'm not sure exactly how it works but with enough manpower and expertise they have gamed it.

One thing is rather obvious with Google news, if you keep reading a certain kind of news, it gives you more of that. For example, if I read more science news on certain topics, it gives more of that. If I don't read sports news, it gives me less of that. So, to some extent, it fits the selection to user's taste.

About poverty report: it might have been removed from the original or it didn't attract enough hits to be on page 1. It is really tough to be on page 1. It has to appeal to a lot of people even on the chosen keywords. I would think poverty reports may not be as popular.

All big countries run their platforms for propaganda. Before it used to be the BBC / CNN, etc. Now they pay the most visited platforms like google / msn / yahoo, etc to spread their information. India gets added benefit, it hosts majority of these systems and they have cart-blanche access to the data / algorithms and all operations within India. No CEO needs to know that a few "web sites" were tweaked within the search algorithms to show certain propaganda.

We are doing it also. But not for Pakistan, we are doing it for IK and his politics. Had that same energy been spent on creating a narrative around Pakistan, it would've looked nice all over the world. But we look like a banana republic due to this Trump / Hitler like political campaign where hatred is being brewed among people living in ONE country.

On this very forum, there were a few threads on Indian terrorism against Pakistan, where our people got killed, etc. And this forums members were writing on there OK'ing Indians go kill our people because they didn't like the Army due to political neutralization. When our OWN people act like this, don't you think Indians will get further strength and now they can show that it's really terrible in Pakistan and they actually are supported by the Pakistani awam?

Time of think who we are and where we want to go from here! Airing out comments like "Indians are doing it but our Army does it much more" doesn't help and we are appreciating our enemy killing our people. They will take this narrative and put it on google and wherever possible, we can't blame them for doing their propaganda!

Something that never existed to begin with cant die. Any sane person outside of Pakistan would instantly reject any Pakistani narrative.

Only "Pakistani narrative" out there are social media users spamming stuff about Indus Valley History and singing "Kashmir Banega Pakistan" LOL

Haha yeah pretty much, if only whining about India and its internal issues like Kashmir or treatment of minorities was a Pakistani narrative only to get ridiculed by others for their idiotic and nonsensical statements and rightfully so. They are in for a real shock when they learn that Kashmir isn't Pakistani nor is Pakistan administered Kashmir Kashmiri.

Funny you mention this, it is always the Pakistanis who look the most Indian and get confused for Indians in foreign countries who talk about the IVC and how it was "Pakistani". I have encountered many such Pakistanis myself who look and act more Indian than an Indian him/herself but will say to your face that they have nothing in common with Indians or "South Asia", they don't realise how much they make a fool of themselves.

But of course, it is all an Indian conspiracy. Those endians are conspiring to take over the world and fool them to defame a pious and developed peace loving country like Pakistan. Damn!

Obviously google and other US social media apps are in bed with the Indians.

Pakistan should ban google and all other US social media apps like Facebook, WhatsApp Twitter, Instagram, Youtube etc. and adopt Chinese apps like Baidu, Tiktok, WeChat, Weibo, Youku instead.
