Understanding what consciousness is, and why and how it evolved, is perhaps the greatest mystery known to science.

The only purpose for consciousness is to plan for the next meal and find water , in wild. This trait is common in all animals in wild.

Humans have been lucky that they have figured out ways to fill up their refrigerators with food so they have more time at hand to use their thinking power for other aspects of Universe.

Every creature , that tries to seek out food / water in order to preserve their status as living has a sense of consciousness. They are aware of their hunger and it causes them to seek an answer i.e food / water. They have desire to be alive.

Humans also have developed methods to pass their life's knowledge across generation, that is also one of those things no other animal can do which is why other Animals start at LEVEL 0 , while humans quickly have ability to learn from their past accumulated knowledge. What they all Going to School University.

If lets say you have a Baby and it is born on a deserted island and lets assume its parents die at young age chances are their language or writing skills would not develop and their actions would be quite primitive. The behavior of that person growing up would be similar to various animals (Speech / Cognitive capabilities)

Animals in animal Kingdom who are separated from their parents are never taught the basic survival skills to live in wild , and they do not have ability to go back to wild forest.

Humans /Animals have similar tendencies to teach their offspring necessary survival skills in wild. Humans just have developed means to "remember" a lot more data due to stuff we call "Schools / Professional learning / Universities"

Verbal speech is a trait we Humans lose , unless we have supervised Teacher who teaches us this if you have a child birth in deserted area this aspect never develops and human behavior is similar to other creatures on planet

Our Ability to pass data generation to generation is also a special ability.

However in term of consciousness every creature has it

Science may never be able to answer what is consciousness? though it may be able to locate the portion of the brain that generates it because consciousness is the realm of philosophy and not science... for example science cannot define what is reality, what is truth, what is right or wrong.... these things are subject of philosophy / religion.

That is the survival instinct.. it is is what all creatures have in common..

Here is a good read about the theory of consciousness:

"Consciousness is not only what we humans use to understand ourselves, our ambient, our environment
and every ‘thing’ in it, but also consciousness itself. Understanding the nature of consciousness
cannot be achieved successfully by merely analyzing one of its attributes, such as behavior. It is like
trying to understand the nature of a car by analyzing its capability of transporting people or articles
from A to B. Nor would it be by analyzing a single neuron. I argue that since consciousness is an
emergent process an effective way is to analyze not one but all the functions being executed when one
is in a state of consciousness. It is somewhat analogous to wanting to understand how the moving
images on a television screen synchronized with an auditory sound, are produced. Certainly it would
not be by analyzing the nature of one component, such as a transistor; but by considering all its
components and analyzing their composite effects. In the proposed natural theory of consciousness the state of consciousness is the emergent outcome, or the result, of the activity of organizing neuronal architectures. Later on in this paper I will show that the essence of organizing is the only implicit state of consciousness."

Well I always wonder , if a Child is left in forest and that child is raised by animals , and they don't have an understanding of Human Language or Word.

What language do the speak to themselves ? One's mother tongue , if other then english or English or french ? Or are they just running on instinct? If they are in a dark night in forest how do they tell themselves in their head "Shit I am gona shit in my pants if I see something "

When such folks sit , and think , or dream about eating their next meal , how do they address themselves or do they just merely see visions , perhaps with no inner voice. What would their inner voice speak to them about or rather what language would the inner voice choose?

Conciousness , disappears when we close our eyes and our brain goes into hybernation model or sleep mode. It needs to be awake after 8 hours becasue the body has depleted all it's food reserves overnight. So a person awakes, with soul purpose of finding coffee or that breakfast

If we go back in time, when food was not abundant, our concious thought process was always occupied with one goal , survival. As food became abundant and men discovered farming and threats from Preditors reduced , they had literally too much hand on their time.

Counciousness , literally became a abundant resoruce. Now for change 99% of that resource was not preoccupied with survival (Food , preditors, illness) now , it had time to examine it's own world

The same questions which were before !

Before
  • How do I find water today in 3 hours
  • How will I get something to eat my stomach is growling
  • How will I be safe after eating , will it rain or snow
  • Will someone steel my cave
(Obviously a human can die in 3-7 days if hungry with no food or water specially water)

After (After food became abundant/preditors died off)
  • Hey why am I living in Cave , no animal can kill me now. Live by river outside the cave
  • Well I figured this fruit does not goes rotten , I can even eat it after 3 weeks
  • Questions about safety , becasme easier if not in cave I can live in shed outside
  • The question about steeling resources is still work in process

Conciousness is just a tool to keep body functioning in prime condition.
It always tries to answer the questions

  • How
  • Why
  • What if
  • What is

When physical entities have been rationalized by the entity at ground level then it peers thru the sky upward and tries to rationalize it , in end it also questions the body it is meant to look after i.e why is it inside this body ?

When the context changes from food/water , it starts to apply the same basic assumptions to every thing our eyes see in world around us.

Instinct , is just a hidden vision we all see which gives us hints what we need to be doing
Some of these visions automatically are played (auto mode after we reach certain age)
This is a trait we also learn from experimentation in life. Adult hood and fatherhood or mother hood desires are instictive events , in which a person starts seeing dreams while they sleep.

Instinct also develops from learning / living life

Example: Lets say you saw fire , and you love the flare and noice and color so you decide to think in your head well what if I lit my hand on fire that would be cool , so you do it and burn the hand. However you learn a lesson from this behavior. Now when you will see fire you will instinctively not try to make the same mistake again

Conciousness is not tied to Universe , but it is tied to your body when body decays or dies conciousness shuts down / permenent hybernation mode occurs.

If it was connected to Universe, it would have known about events happening across the Universe

a) Solar system sun is in center and planets are revolving around it
b) It would have known about distant galaxes , or it would have seen dreams about it
c) It would feel the pain when star goes supernova , however in reality it only is concerned
if body suffers some illness.

Scientist have already made pretty good process to understand how the information is saved theoratically and how the data is transmitted across the body , Scientist are not that good yet in fully understanding the inner workings for it
